Top Ten YA Novels 2012: Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Looks like 2012 centers JLA's novels!

No.3: Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Summary:

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

***

Why I love this book so much:

1. So many WTF things:

Oh, come on, throughout the book there IS a lot of WTF things going on. First is Dee being a bitch. Okay, I know she's sad, she's angry, she's devastated. I KNOW. But her attitude? She, wanna kill Blake? Yeah, totally unexpected. I mean, how can we imagine our sweet ball of sunshine will become so fierce (and dark)?

And then it's Blake's reappearance. I mean, didn't that pervert get the message? He still come back, and TRY TO LURE THEM INTO A TRAP AGAIN! I can't believe Blake did this, okay? He, confessing that he likes Kat? Yeah, so not believing it right now.

Another reappearance is Will. He's not a big problem, though, because the mutation had turn on him and made his cancer a more serious problem. Still, his reappearance surprises me. And it's really annoying. Why the hell did he appear in Kat's house again?

And then the most flabbergasting of all is Carissa and Simon. They are FREAKING mutated. And they become mindless hybrid zombies/ emotionless hybrid/ whatever you call it. Carissa is a sweet girl. I kinda like her. And even though Simon is quite a douche, I can't believe they are mutated. I mean, what the hell? Is the DOD insane, keep kidnapping innocent humans and mutate them and turn them into mindless soldiers?

2. Stable relationship

You guys know that Daemon and Kat had a rocky relationship in Onyx. Well, the path is more stable now in Opal. And that's really something to celebrate. I mean, I'm tired of either Daemon or Kat trying to push each other away and deny their feelings for each other. A stable, and smoking hot relationship is always my first priority.

3. Kat is a different person/ hybrid

Kat is not cowering anymore in Opal. I mean, not that she is cowering in either Obsidian and Onyx. It's just that she becomes more like a fighter now. More protective. I like this Kat more because I always love fierce heronie. I mean it. Even though this Kat is a little bit too fierce sometimes, I still like her.

***

Why you guys should read this book:

1. Awesome

I mean it, it's awesome. You can see above that I state so many WTF things in Opal. These are unexpected. And Dawson wanna rescue Beth. I kinda see it coming, yes. But the rescue isn't going smooth. (Spoiler) First is the whole onyx spray thing. And second is Kat being kidnapped. (Spoiler end) These are totally unexpected. And you know what? The ending is awesome as hell, even though I'm kind of angry with JLA that she leaves this freaking cliffhanger and we have to wait over a half year for Origin.

2. Humor

Yeah, I know I've mention humor a few times already. But I still can't believe JLA can still manage humor in such a tense situation. I mean, rescuing Beth isn't easy. And handling Blake and DOD is hard as hell. But then, this book can still bring out laughter. I was in awe that I can still laugh after all kinds of emotional roller coaster. JLA should keep it this way.

Opal: Review

Yesterday I told you I will release a review about Opal. And now here it is! The third book of Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. So very addicting.

***

Okay. This is the BEST Lux novel ever! I can't imagine how it can even be better than Onyx! Onyx is like, one of the best novels on Earth. There are endless stunning scene. And I was like going up and down in the most freakish rollar coaster. Believe me, I've never feel anything like this before. Until I read Opal. This is so awesome.

So there's Dawson. He's not like he was before. Actually he's nothing like he was before. But eventually it gets better. Consolation here, huh? Well, only just a bit. I miss the guy in Shadows. All playful and good attitude. I can't say this Dawson doesn't get a fair attitude. But the mischief is missing. Even though I understand why, it's just SAD to the core.

And here's Dee. I have no idea why Dee can be so bitchy in the first part of the book. Yeah, I know she's hurt, she's devastated. I get that she hates (well, sort of even though she won't admit it) Kat for her loss. But that doesn't mean she can be all bitchy. Kat had no idea this would happen. So I'm a little mad at her for her attitude. Does Ash and Andrew's bitchiness transger to Dee? Because Ash isn't like she was before, either. Okay, again it gets better. And I'm more than cool with that.

There are other shocks. They are just endless. Well, first is the reappearance of Blake. Actually, after what happened, I really wanna kick him in the guts. Well, again like Kat, I thought he can be trusted this time. Even Dawson trusts him (well, maybe not, but definitely better than Daemon). And again, when the Arum let him go, I really wanna wipe his existence clean from the Earth. Come on, what is wrong with Blake? They save Chris. Yay. And then he just go back to the pod-thing? And I still have no idea how Blake actually feel about Kat. Maybe he does like her. But you know what? I DON'T CARE.

Looks like I'm gonna list all the things that shocks me... Okay, I will.

In the first parts of the book there is this Will reappearance thing. And as the story pushes forward, I almost forgot this hidden threat. But when he appear in Kat's house with a horrifying face, this is just getting awesome (I have no idea if this is a sarcastic remark). Oh come on, just leave Kat and Daemon alone go die yourself. You shoot the freaking bullet into Kat's chest. If he was alive again I would definitely slap him. This dude totally ruins the name Will.

And here's Carissa, mutated, and crazed. Honestly, how can she appear outside Kat's house and attack her is still beyond me. But Carissa doesn't deserve that. She's quite a great girl. With funky glasses (I wear funky glasses too!). This is sad, but maybe this is not the most shocking of all.

And the most awesome, terrifying, heartbreak scene is definitely the last part. But somehow I'm not that shock. Maybe because I've thought of the possibility of Kat being trapped. But you know what? The last part is unforgettable. Now I can't wait for Origin when it will come out in July 2013 (UGH!). And now I know why the last two books will be told in both Kat and Daemon's perspective. All the feels in that part is killing me from inside. Damn, this author has really gotten under my skin (besides Cassie).

This book is a little bit overwhelming... but I like it. Well, I hope Origin will be even more addicting and awesome. JLA is not only the writing ninja. She's got great skills.

Rating: 9.5/10 (I'm tempted to give it 10/10. But maybe I should leave it later)

Opal: One Day To Go!

The best day of December is approaching! It's Opal from Jennifer L. Armentrout, The third book of Lux series.

Summary:

No one is like Daemon Black.

You know what? I'm one of the lucky people. I read it on December 5th, 2012! So I'm gonna write a review about Opal tomorrow. And another piece of information in case you want some teaser: Kat will do something she have never imagine that she will do in the book.

Obsession and Origin Teaser!

Hiya guys! There's two JLA teasers out there. One is from Obsession and one is from ORIGIN! Let's check out the Obsession teaser first...

“Not all of their kind came to Earth when our planets were destroyed. Tens of thousands are

here, but there are hundreds of thousands out there. They will come eventually.” “And?” she

asked, her arms loosening and falling to her sides. “And humans will be glad that there are

Arums on this planet when that day comes.”

Looks like it's a Luxen talking. But it sounds really horrible. JLA had said that Obsession will change our PoV towards Luxen and Arum. I wonder if this Luxen's a bad guy. Hmm.

And here's one for Origin! Very curious one...

“As close as you’re riding me, man, I feel like I need to take you out to dinner or something.

At least, I should get your name.” He punched in a floor number, smirking. “People call me

Archer.”

This Archer guy surely's a new character. Is he from the colony? Is he talking to Kat or Daemon? And what does he want? Another cliff-freaking-hanger here.

UGH, JLA is becoming more like Cassie now. Always giving us teasers to torture us. Now I can't freaking wait for these two books.

Oh and Origin will be released in July, 2013. (Why is it so far away?)

And one more teaser from me: Anyone who hasn't read Opal yet, the ending is awesome in a horrible way. Just saying. Don't hit me.

Two Smoking Hot Teasers

Another two teasers from Opal! You're gonna love these snippets:

Let's start with the literally smoking hot teaser:

I pulled back, drawing in a sharp breath. Our eyes locked. A wealth of emotion shone in his brilliant green eyes. He cupped my cheek with one hand tenderly, and he spoke in his lovely language. It sounded like three lyrical words—a short, beautiful verse.
“What did you say?” I asked, my fingers loosening around the cover.
His smile was secretive and then his lips were on mine again and my eyes drifted shut. I let go of the blanket, felt it slip away, pool around my hips, and I felt Daemon stop breathing for a moment.

****
Awww... (sighs)

So what did he say? Is it somewhat like agapi mou?

Damn, JLA. You are definitely the second coming of Cassandra Clare. Always releasing snippets to torture us. Now I'm growing really desperate to read Opal.

Here's the fun one:

"Simmer down, Kitten, before I have to get you a ball of yarn to play with."

Ahaha. So Daemon.

I will never get use to their infamous word war and their jokes.

December's approaching. Yay!

Gonna Read: December and January

The last month of the year is approaching! Time to prepare for some new books.

Let's start with December.

1. Annabel (Delirium #0.5) by Lauren Oliver

Summary:

Lena's mother, Annabel, has always been a mystery—a ghost in Lena's past. Until now.

Discover her secrets in Lauren Oliver's brilliant original digital story set in the world of New York Times bestsellers Delirium and Pandemonium.

Lena Halloway's mother, Annabel, supposedly committed suicide when Lena was only six years old. That's the lie that Lena grew up believing, but the truth is very different. As a rebellious teenager, Annabel ran away from home and straight into the man she knew she was destined to marry. The world was different then—the regulations not as stringent, the cure only a decade old. Fast forward to the present, and Annabel is consigned to a dirty prison cell, where she nurtures her hope of escape and scratches one word over and over into the walls: Love.

But Annabel, like Lena, is a fighter. Through chapters that alternate between her past and present, Annabel reveals the story behind her failed cures, her marriage, the births of her children, her imprisonment, and, ultimately, her daring escape.

Opal Teaser!

Another teaser from Opal, the third book of Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout!

Daemon pulled back, brows raised. “Kitten…”
“Okay.” I scooted back and he followed, climbing over me, his arms huge and powerful. God, I was in way over my head with him sometimes. “You might be right, but you’re wasting time.”
“I’m always right.”

I opened my mouth to disagree, but his lips took control of mine, and his kiss reached deep down inside me, melted muscle and bone. His tongue swept over mine, and at that moment, he could have been right all he wanted as long as he kept kissing me like that.

Guess the "right" thing is to kiss Kat. But why are they wasting time? Luckily December's approaching, or I will be twitching my palm for like, months.

Opal Teaser!

Deity is out in bookstores, and it's time for some Opal Teasers!

Dawson raised his arm and two DVDs shot into his hand. “Uh, we have Diary of the Dead and Survival of the Dead.”
“Great,” Daemon muttered.
I rolled my eyes. “Wussy.”
“Whatever.” He elbowed me, knocking a kernel of popcorn between my chest and notebook. I sighed. “Want me to get that for you?” he asked.
Shooting him a look, I dug it out and then tossed it in his face. “You’re going to be grateful when the zombie apocalypse occurs and I know what to do because of my zombie fetish.”
He looked doubtful. “There are better fetishes out there, Kitten. I could show you a few.”
“Uh, no, thank you.” But I did flush. And there were a lot of images that suddenly polluted my brain. “Aren’t you supposed to go to the nearest Costco or something?” Dawson asked, letting the DVDs float back to the coffee table.
Daemon turned to his twin slowly, face incredulous. “And how would you know that?”
He shrugged. “It’s in the Zombie Survival Guide.”
“It is.” I nodded eagerly. “Costco has everything—thick walls, food, and supplies. They even sell guns and ammunition. You could hole up there for years while the zombies are getting their nom nom on.”
Daemon’s mouth dropped open.
“What?” I grinned. “Zombies got to eat, too, you know.”

***
Wow... Dawson seems so... normal. Not like the zombie-like guy in Daemon's house at the end of Onyx. Hope that he actually go back to normal or I will be so sad. And this is so funny. I need more Opal teaser, for aliens' sake.

Gonna Read: November and December

October is almost over here! What am I gonna read next?

Let's start with my birthday (and tests) month, November

1. Deity (Covenant #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Summary:

"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time. "

Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.

If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

1. Opal (Lux #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

2. Annabel (Delirium #2.5) by Lauren Oliver
