Synopsis Recap:
First Frost sets before Touch of Frost, with Gwen Frost in a normal school in the normal world. Being a girl with weird touch abilities, she's the one girl who can help folks finding their lost things. When she has a serious freak-out with her magic, she's being shipped off to the Mythos Academy, where people studying there are descendants of ancient warriors, and can seriously kick ass.
Touch of Frost is the start of Gwen's adventure. She's the weird Gypsy girl who can (still) help students in Mythos Academy find lost stuff. Life is weird as hell but okay. Until a girl named Jasmine Ashton dies mysteriously. Curious, she sets off to find the reason of her death, only to uncover a dark side of the mythological world and she's in the center of the mess. Personally.
Gwen is kind of in a mess in Kiss of Frost. She's head over heels with the guy who (apparently) doesn't give a damn about her. She's a target for the Reapers of Chaos. She doesn't know how to survive for the rest of the semester. And then there's a Reaper who is trying to kill her when (s)he [because that's spoiler!] gets the chance. Gwen has to fight or might just die by the Reaper's hands.
Dark Frost sets the stage for Crimson Frost. In order to stop the Reapers from freeing Loki from his prison, Gwen has to find the Helheim dagger that her mother hid. Only she has no idea how to find it because her touch magic doesn't allow one bit of information of the dagger to slip through. She has to find it before the Reapers do, or it might result in the worst thing she can think possible...
Crimson Frost is a storm. Just when she thinks she can have a peaceful moment with Logan, she's being accused of a crime she didn't intentionally commit. With Loki free, Gwen is put into more danger than ever before. She's a target for Loki's Champion. Her life is on the line. She has to figure out what the Reapers are up to before they destroy everything and everyone she loves.
Spartan Frost is set between Crimson Frost and Midnight Frost. This is Logan's point of view after the events of Crimson Frost. He's in a mess. He can't believe he did terrible things to the girl he loves. He's angry and ashamed and sickened. He has to be strong again if he wants to fight side by side with Gwen again. But with all the darkness still in his heart, it's anything but an easy task.
Midnight Frost is the calm before the final storm. Someone is trying to poison Gwen, only they get the wrong guy. In order to save him, Gwen and her friends set out to find an antidote. But the trip is anything but easy. The Reapers are waiting for them at the end of their journey to their destination. And then there's the past of Gwen's parents, which is nothing like she expected to be. And there's the key to killing Loki, only she doesn't know how to use it. Midnight Frost sets the perfect stage for Killer Frost.
The final installment, Killer Frost, is the final battle for Gwen and her friends. Gwen still has no idea how to kill Loki, which really sets her on edge. Her relationship with Logan is still barely salvageable. Then someone she loves is in danger, and she's forbidden to do reckless things in order to save him/her [again, spoiler]. Something in her finally snaps, and she's ready to throw herself into the battle -- whether she's truly ready for it or not. And there will be blood on the floor by the end of it.

Thoughts Recap:
(I'm not going to talk about First Frost and Halloween Frost and Spartan Frost here. I've read all of them, but I'm not going to talk about them)
Three words to describe the series: Interesting, exciting, humorous
Touch of Frost is a nice (if not a little weird) start of Gwen's adventure. Gwen herself is quite a nice character. Snarky, funny and curious. I really like how her curiosity brings her countless trouble in this book. Her discovery of a much darker side of the mythological world sets a great stage for Kiss of Frost. To be honest, this is one hell of a redemption for my hatred toward novels with academies as backgrounds (after what happened with VA and House of Night? No, just no. Until Mythos Academy).
Kiss of Frost is a fairly interesting book. There are a lot of scenes that brings some feels. But for some reason this book is not as good as the other five. Maybe because this book is not exactly necessary, even though it is quite a lot of fun. Nevertheless, it is a pretty nice book, but not really a book of necessity (in terms of plot development).
Dark Frost sets the stage for the last three books. There are a lot of mystery unsolved. Gwen is facing multiple problems. With a deadline. It's more exciting than the previous two books, because everything is kind of at stake, whether it's her safety, the world's safety, or her sort-of-romance with Logan. With the ending that will create chaos in the last three books, Dark Frost is certainly, pretty dark.
Crimson Frost, in my opinion, is the best book in the series besides Killer Frost. I have a strong feelings for the mistreated. In this case it's Gwen. To put it clearly, it means that Crimson Frost seriously brings out my strong feelings, which is relatively rare, because I normally can hold strong emotions at bay. It's pretty admirable the book brings out my unstable side. It ends with a bang too, which is unlike the other five books. Crimson Frost is an unforgettable storm in Mythos Academy series.
Midnight Frost is the calm before the final battle. Unlike Kiss of Frost, the book is necessary because it holds important information for the final defeat of Loki. It's still a good book, but I don't enjoy it as much as I do with Crimson Frost. I'm pretty calm reading this book and I know that things won't be that bad in Midnight Frost because there's still the mess in Killer Frost that can potentially wreck everything, even though I don't know if they'll seriously be fine logically. A nice story, but nowhere as exciting as Crimson Frost (and Killer Frost, of course).
Killer Frost is the last installment of the series. Everything can happen. Like Gwen, I'm on edge reading this book because I'm dying dying DYING to know what will actually happen when nothing seems certain. It's a torrent of action, heartache and pure awesomeness blend together. One of the nicest endings I've read since I started reading YA novels. Excellent novel. I think I really will miss Gwen and her friends, especially Gwen with her snarkiness.
Overall Rating: 8/10
Do I recommend this series?: If you have a thing for all kinds of mythological creatures in one single series, then totally. But I really suggest everyone give it a try.

Killer Frost: Review
Synopsis:
I’ve battled the Reapers of Chaos before–and survived. But this time I have a Bad, Bad Feeling it’s going to be a fight to the death … most likely mine.
Yeah, I’ve got my psychometry magic, my talking sword, Vic–and even the most dangerous Spartan on campus at my side, in Logan freaking Quinn, but I’m no match for Loki, the evil Norse god of chaos. I may be Nike’s Champion, but at heart, I’m still just Gwen Frost, that weird Gypsy girl everyone at school loves to gossip about.
Then someone I love is put in more danger than ever before, and something inside me snaps. This time, Loki and his Reapers are going down for good … or I am.

Killer Frost is a very different book from the previous five, mainly because Gwen has changed A LOT. Sure, she's still the girl with a snarky undertone, still the Gypsy girl that everyone talks about, still trying to figure out a way to stay alive. But this time she's on edge. Ready to throw herself to the final battle because of what happened to that certain someone she loves, no matter how dangerous and reckless it is. It's not normal to see Gwen so enraged, but it certainly gives a sharp edge for the book. Hey, Killer Frost is supposed to be sharp. That's actually kind of perfect for the book.
Unlike Midnight Frost, this book doesn't bore me out even on the least bit. No, action is on a roll in Killer Frost. Countless fights, whether physical or mental, Gwen being reckless/brave/however you call it, are heart-stopping. Especially the final battle. I kind of see the outcome coming, but for some reason the outcome still surprises me to no ends. These fights, combined with Gwen's edginess, make it the best book in the series.
The romance, surprisingly, is not that big of a part of Killer Frost. Surprising, because for some reason I kind of expect one-on-one sections between Gwen and Logan, after that certain event in Crimson Frost. But there are not. There aren't many make-out or kissing scene either. I don't really know what I feel about that, but I don't feel annoyed that there aren't many Gwen/Logan scene. I suppose that's a good thing, because I'm really feeling crappy (sorry, but that's the only way I can put it) recently.
Killer Frost has a completely different tone from the previous five books, and it makes quite a good ending for Mythos Academy series. I always think that Mythos Academy is an exception to my disdain towards novels with an academy as the background. And this final installment proves it right. Again.

Yeah! Summer is finally here! Here are the new releases that I wanna read in July. But actually, my summer reads list is far longer than that :D
1. Vortex (Insignia #2) by S.J. Kincaid

Encouraged to betray his ideals and friendships for the sake of his country, Tom is convinced there must be another way. And the more aware he becomes of the corruption surrounding him, the more determined he becomes to fight it, even if he sabotages his own future in the process.
Drawn into a power struggle more dramatic than he has ever faced before, Tom stays a hyperintelligent step ahead of everyone, like the exceptional gamer he is—or so he believes. But when he learns that he and his friends have unwittingly made the most grievous error imaginable, Tom must find a way to outwit an enemy so nefarious that victory seems hopeless. Will his idealism and bravado cost him everything—and everyone that matters to him?

I don't know what you think, but I think this is not as good as Crimson Frost. Things are way smoother for Gwen Frost in a way in Midnight Frost, because she isn't treated like shit anymore. The plot is just as smooth as Crimson Frost but the explosive parts aren't as breath-taking as I first thought it would be.
Okay, so there's Gwen. Well, Gwen certainly grows up a lot since Crimson Frost, and continues in this book. The most obvious thing is that her sword skills improves a lot :). And she's tougher than she used to be. She's also able to make really tough decisions entirely on her own and needs no advice. A kick-ass warrior, after all. And I'm glad.
Overall I enjoy reading the book. But there are two major flaws in my opinion. First is the battles between Reapers and the Pantheon members. There's no end with a bang like Crimson Frost does, and I'm down with it because there's no way every single book ends with a bang. But this time, the results of the battles are too predictable and I know almost for certain what will happen next. That's a downside, because normally I want surprising and unpredictable results, and the fights aren't as exciting as I expect them to be.
Another flaw is Logan. If you are thinking I'm complaining about Logan missing in the majority of the book, then you're dead wrong. In fact his presence frustrates me a lot. It's not that I don't like that guy, but he just can't snap out of his miserable-mind-in-progress status and go full battle mode. Not until Gwen smacks some sense into him and pull him back to his business. That's a little irritating and I did a couple of face-palm during the book. At least Gwen can focus on her duty, but the Spartan can't.
I won't say this is a let down because it's quite an entertainment after all. But this book isn't as good as Crimson Frost and I hope Killer Frost will be better (by the way, Killer Frost is a freaking cool name :D)

Estep blends the perfect amount of action, romance and comedy. --"RT Book Reviews " I'm Logan Quinn, the deadliest Spartan warrior at Mythos Academy. At least I was--until the day I almost killed Gwen Frost.

Spartan Frost is a spin-off novella. And indeed it is. I mean, it's not a must read although it's entertaining. While the battles-lite are fun to read, Logan frustrates me. A lot. I mean, suck it up and snap out of your misery, okay? You are Logan freaking Quinn, the strongest Spartan yet, and you can't get over your guilt and stand up again? Jeez. Not that I don't like him anymore, but he makes me think he's a coward.
There are also glimpses of what Logan feels about Gwen. Not much, and that's a little disappointing. But with all the frustration rolling, I think it's a good thing not to add more fuel to my burning irritation. I won't go against it, but I won't strongly recommend this novella to you especially if you are not a big fan of Logan (I happen to be one of those who are NOT Logan's fan)

This time I choose Midnight Frost (Mythos Academy #5) by Jennifer Estep
We stood there, weapons clutched tight in our hands, blood everywhere, bodies stacked up two and three deep at our feet, with even more Reapers sprawled over the benches and tables. For a moment, the only sounds were our harsh, raspy breaths and the grind of the gears as the train kept chugging up the mountain.
"Well," Vic said in a cheery voice. "That's the way to start the day off right. Blood before breakfast. Always a treat, if you ask me."

Crimson Frost: Review
Synopsis:
For a moment, a face flashed before my eyes—the most hideous face I’d ever seen. No matter how hard I tried to forget what had happened, I saw him everywhere I went. It was Loki—the evil god that I’d helped set free against my will.
I should have known that my first official date with Logan Quinn was destined to end in disaster. If we’d gotten into a swordfight, or been ambushed by Reapers, I’d have been more prepared. But getting arrested mid-sip at the local coffee hangout? I didn’t see that one coming.
I’ve been accused of purposely helping the Reapers free Loki from his prison—and the person leading the charge against me is Linus Quinn, Logan’s dad. The worst part is that pretty much everyone at Mythos Academy thinks I’m guilty. If I’m going to get out of this mess alive, I’ll have to do it myself…
***
The best so far! I mean, it's one hell of a kick, being arrest like that! In this book, Gwen faces the possibility of being executed because of a crime she didn't commit (why does this sound like Last Sacrifice?). She need to get the charges dropped fast or her death will cause great chaos.
This time, Gwen changes so much. Because of her charges, pretty much every one (excluding her friends, of course) turn against her. She's tougher and more mature because she doesn't just act on her anger and frustration and storms up to pick on someone even though I can see she very much wants to do so. I can see her growing up and guess what? I like this kind of changes. But her snarkiness is still there which is a relief. Gwen is, well Gwen because she IS herself and I appreciate that.
Crimson Frost is more emotional than before and the action scenes are more focused in just a part of the story. I don't know if that's a good thing to me. On one hand seeing more emotions from Gwen or other characters delights me because in the previous three books, things are... easier. On the other I can hardly stand some of the sudden emotional attack and I... kinda loathe it because I want something mentally peaceful to read these days. Maybe I will appreciate this act more in the future (or in the past....), but not now.
The best part of the book is probably the last part, which is the battle part. Oh, it fits to say the book ends with a bang! Not only WTF moments are guaranteed, intense adrenaline flow is nearly kick started in my veins! I mean, (SPOILERS! AVOID THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ CRIMSON FROST YET!!!) Gwen is stabbed in the chest by Logan freaking Quinn and nearly died. (END OF SPOILERS) Need more than that? (Actually maybe I do, because I crave for blood and violence ha ha ha <<<laughing in a evil way)
Crimson Frost is the best so far. I've read Spartan Frost and I will post a review... maybe sooner than you thought. I'm reading Midnight Frost right now and let's see if this book will be even better than Crimson Frost.

Dark Frost: Review
Synopsis:
I've seen so many freaky things since I started attending Mythos Academy last fall. I know I'm supposed to be a fearless warrior, but most of the time, I feel like I'm just waiting for the next Bad, Bad Thing to happen. Like someone trying to kill me--again.
Everyone at Mythos Academy knows me as Gwen Frost, the Gypsy girl who uses her psychometry magic to find lost objects--and who just may be dating Logan Quinn, the hottest guy in school. But I'm also the girl the Reapers of Chaos want dead in the worst way. The Reapers are the baddest of the bad, the people who murdered my mom. So why do they have it in for me? It turns out my mom hid a powerful artifact called the Helheim Dagger before she died. Now, the Reapers will do anything to get it back. They think I know where the dagger is hidden, but this is one thing I can't use my magic to find. All I do know is that the Reapers are coming for me--and I'm in for the fight of my life.
***
This book lives up to my expectations. Maybe not every single one of them but almost everything. It's still the same cycle going on. You know, trying to find stuff/truth/whatever Gwen wants to find and then get herself into mortal danger. Only this time things are more enhanced and the stakes are higher than ever. I mean, it's time to battle with the serious bad badass Loki's Champion. And the prison trapping Loki is this close from getting loose and Loki will break free. Quite a lot of pressure. That is the part where things actually lives up to my expectations... except it's still only Reapers. But hey, this series is supposed to be about the Pantheon against the Reapers.
If I'm a little surprised that Gwen hasn't changed much in Kiss of Frost, then I have to say I'm VASTLY surprised Gwen still hasn't changed much in Dark Frost. Well, that's really a record. Okay, subtle changes are inevitable. But she still has her snarkiness, her bravery, and her pure heart. Usually big changes in one's heart are involved in the middle of the whole series. And I can hardly believe Gwen can still keep up her own spirit even after the freaky and dangerous things constantly happening to her.
The romance part gets a little messy, though. It's kind of a relief to see that romance is not a big part of the story. Okay, it's still pretty big, but not as big as I thought it would be and that's good, because I can't handle massive heartbreak and loss these days. Back to the messy part. Messy, because things are getting a little complicated between Gwen and Logan, and with my now weakened heart and mind, I get a little disoriented and possibly a tad bit irritated. But it's a minor flaw. No harm done.
Wow, I really need to read Crimson Frost now. I really, really like Jennifer Estep's books because they are not long and dragging on. They are short and sweet. They won't give you too much information so that you won't get bored, but enough for you to understand the story. The perfect balance. I think I like this kind of writing style :)

Kiss of Frost: Review
Synopsis:
I’m Gwen Frost, a second-year warrior-in-training at Mythos Academy, and I have no idea how I’m going to survive the rest of the semester. One day, I’m getting schooled in swordplay by the guy who broke my heart—the drop-dead gorgeous Logan who slays me every time. Then, an invisible archer in the Library of Antiquities decides to use me for target practice. And now, I find out that someone at the academy is really a Reaper bad guy who wants me dead. I’m afraid if I don’t learn how to live by the sword—with Logan’s help—I just might die by the sword...
***
What I feel about Kiss of Frost is pretty much the same as Touch of Frost. I mean, not that they're the same thing. But I can totally see a pattern there: Gwen discovers something weird, Gwen sets off to find the answer, Gwen faces mortal danger and defeats it, Gwen has a new task given by whoever the heck he/she is. I hope Dark Frost won't continue the same pattern even though the whole process is quite fun to read.
I'm a little surprised that Gwen hasn't changed much. Maybe a little less clumsy and more responsible. She's still a tad bit snarky which I really like. She's still amusing to me, and still a typical teenager by heart (not by her... skills). She has to battle with more emotions because of a certain Spartan boy, but she's quick in making decisions. My new favorite thing of her. I'm tired of indecisiveness.
The plot disappoints me a little, though. I mean, is there anymore mortal threat out there other than Reapers of Chaos and Loki? I love reading books with multiple burning dangers happening at the same time. I love reading about chaos. But then, it's way too soon for everything to set on stone. I hope something bigger and badder will be out there lurking and I will read more excitement.
That doesn't mean the book is lack of excitement and kick-ass-moments, though. In fact I really love when Gwen is fighting a certain Reaper. Man, that scene is cool. Maybe not the best scene so far because I've read about better fights. But I like it. Fast-paced and quick and intense. It doesn't last long, but the scene is epic.
Since there's a thread left behind at the end of Kiss of Frost, I'm going to read Dark Frost. Soon.

Touch of Frost: Review
Synopsis:
My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy; a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody's head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest. But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos. First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. Then, someone stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I'm determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why; especially since I should have been the one who died...
***
I have to admit I'm a little hesitant on reading this book. Academy stuff doesn't sit well with me usually, not after... House of Night. The Reaper Diaries did little on making me feel better while reading academy stuff so I'm not so sure about reading Touch of Frost. But it turns out better than I thought. Maybe I should've give it a chance earlier.
Gwen is the narrator in this book. I like her. Well, not because she can kick some Reaper ass (which is the typical reason why I like girls) because she's a little bit clumsier than other students in Mythos. I like how she talks actually. She sounds like a typical teenager (maybe a little snarkier). Usually when I read books, the female protagonist either sounds too modest or too giddy. Few can portray a teenager with a typical teenager talking style. Jennifer Estep has succeed in that and the book is really entertaining because of this.
I also like Gwen for not hiding her feelings towards people around her. It's very brave for her to express her emotion (even though it's negative) to those around her because not only that's a hard thing (at least for me), female protagonists in books have a habit of acting indifferent/nonchalant in front of her love interest/people around her and I'm a little sick of it at times (actually male protagonists do that more often, but then Gwen is a girl). Even though exposing her emotions completely is a little bit bald and makes her emotionally vulnerable, I like that part about her.
The setting of the book is actually quite cool. Normally only one kind of mythical creatures (or two) is featured in a series. Not this time. It's very rare to have all kinds of mythical stuff cramming into one series (Well, maybe except the Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare, with Shadowhunters, vampires, werewolves, warlocks, and so on existing at the same time in one... uh, five series). Greek gods and Norse mythology rolling into one? I think I like it. Sounds really fun.
The only flaw about this book is the plot. It's a little bit too predictable for me. I mean, it's smooth and I appreciate that. But when everything's going so smooth, you can practically guess what will happen next. I hope Kiss of Frost won't have this problem (yep, I'm planning to read it, since I really, really love Gwen's talking style).
Rating: 7.5/10
P. S. By the way, I'm not swooning over Logan Quinn, in case you're wondering. He's a jerk in this book. Maybe not the worst kind. But still. And he puts the "man" in man-whore in a real dickhead way ("dickhead" being the keyword).
