Surreal Sunday (Monday Edition): Spin-off Series of Blood of Eden?

I'm sorry about the Monday Edition thing but my computer was busted and I just got my computer back. I really want to talk about this topic because I can't get Blood of Eden out of the surface of my mind.

Blood of Eden is written by Julie Kagawa, the author of The Iron Fey series. And anyone who reads Iron Fey will know that there's a spin-off series called Call of The Forgotten. And... as surreal as it sounds, I really hope there will be a spin-off series of Blood of Eden because I love this series more than The Iron Fey! Though I can think of a couple of reasons why Julie probably won't write this:

1) Actually there's a prequel of Blood of Eden and that's Dawn of Eden. Check out here: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17732017-dawn-of-eden I mean, if there's a prequel,
there's practically little reason why a spin-off series should come in to existence (and let's face it, there's no prequel in The Iron Fey).

2) According to Harlequin Teen, there will be an untitled series written by Julie about mythical creatures cloaked as humans. Check out here: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17331828-untitled I seriously doubt if Julie has time for another series (although she's writing Call of The Forgotten and Blood of Eden at the same time...)

Okay, anyway, let's forget those problems. If there would be a Blood of Eden spin-off, here's what I thought this is about:

1) Before: Yeah, Dawn of Eden is also about before, but that's set in the time where vampires are still mythical creatures and the first wave of Red Lung Disease plaguing everyone. And about Kylie finding out the rabids. There are two befores. One is the way before, which is how Red Lung Disease first discovered that kind of stuff. Another is not-so-far-before, which is the setting up of the first vampire cities... and Eden, possibly (Spoiler Alert!) Actually there aren't anything about the foundation of the first vampire cities and Eden in Dawn of Eden (End of Spoiler). That should be interesting. You know, more vampire dystopia :)

2) After: After, which is after the events in Blood of Eden. Okay, The Forever Song hasn't hit the stores so we have no way to know what will really happen (although I have some theories in mind...). But actually, I highly doubt those vampire cities will fall altogether in the last installment of Blood of Eden. So, maybe this is about the fall-down of those cities? Or something else?

Uh, sounds like this spin-off series will actually come into existence when this idea is damn nearly impossible.

Surreal Sunday: Requiem in Alex's Point of View?

Today is a crazy day. A really, really crazy day. And I thought about crazy and surreal possibilities. One of the most bizarre is probably Requiem in Alex's PoV.

Yep, Requiem by Lauren Oliver. In ALEX's perspective. Unimaginable and impossible right? I think this will never be an option. But it just came to my mind today.

First, let's read more about Requiem.

Synopsis:

They have tried to squeeze us out, to stamp us into the past.

But we are still here.

And there are more of us every day.

Now an active member of the resistance, Lena has been transformed. The nascent rebellion that was under way in Pandemonium has ignited into an all-out revolution in Requiem, and Lena is at the center of the fight.

After rescuing Julian from a death sentence, Lena and her friends fled to the Wilds. But the Wilds are no longer a safe haven—pockets of rebellion have opened throughout the country, and the government cannot deny the existence of Invalids. Regulators now infiltrate the borderlands to stamp out the rebels, and as Lena navigates the increasingly dangerous terrain, her best friend, Hana, lives a safe, loveless life in Portland as the fiancée of the young mayor.

Maybe we are driven crazy by our feelings.

Maybe love is a disease, and we would be better off without it.

But we have chosen a different road.

And in the end, that is the point of escaping the cure: We are free to choose.

We are even free to choose the wrong thing.

Requiem is told from both Lena’s and Hana’s points of view. The two girls live side by side in a world that divides them until, at last, their stories converge.

***

I have to warn you that this post will definitely contain spoilers. Huge ones, maybe even. So please be careful about them if you haven't read Requiem, Pandemonium or Delirium yet.

(In fact the post is mostly for guys who have already read Requiem)

In my review I mentioned that Alex is back in Requiem. However he has transformed... and so not in a good way. In the excerpt from HarperTeen, Alex turns cold and cruel to Lena. Looks like he hates her. But is everything that simple?

You know I'm dying to read some Alex's point of view (just like I'm longing for Free Four from Divergent!). I mean, you guys probably know that there will be a short story in Alex's perspective in the first edition of the hardcover version of Requiem. But... (warning: HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD!) it's not about Requiem. It's more like the pre-Requiem. Where he... well, I'm not gonna tell you that because this is way too spoilery. But what I really want to read is his perspective RIGHT IN Requiem, where he meets Lena again. 'Cuz you know what? I really want to know what Alex's really thinking when he spit out cruel words to Lena. This would be interesting.

Jeez, don't you want some explanation of his attitude? I mean, he kinda bugs me off in Requiem. For some time I actually consider to change my ship to Julian. I think I will be relieved (well, more relieved) when I get some brief sense of what Alex really thinks about Lena and... Julian (yep). This will (sorry, it should be WOULD) be one of the most thrilling experience since mankind is created. I mean, it's ALEX SHEATHES! Not just some random guy!

If there WOULD be a Requiem short story (or the whole book) told in Alex's point of view, would you read it? I think I would!

Surreal Sunday: Sequel of Cursed?

The first Surreal Sunday in 2013! Woohoo!

Don't yell at me. I know Cursed is a stand-alone for the forseeable future. But JLA said "for te forseeable future". (Confused? Click here for the Q&A: http://www.facebook.com/JenniferLArmentrout/posts/104646599709484)

There's no guarantee that it will stay as stand-alone in the un-forseeable future.

So here's Cursed:

And the Summary:

Dying sucks--and high school senior Ember McWilliams knows firsthand. After a fatal car accident, her gifted little sister brought her back. Now anything Ember touches dies. And that, well, really blows.
Ember operates on a no-touch policy with all living things--including boys. When Hayden Cromwell shows up, quoting Oscar Wilde and claiming her curse is a gift, she thinks he's a crazed cutie. But when he tells her he can help control it, she's more than interested. There's just one catch: Ember has to trust Hayden's adopted father, a man she's sure has sinister reasons for collecting children whose abilities even weird her out. However, she's willing to do anything to hold her sister's hand again. And hell, she'd also like to be able to kiss Hayden. Who wouldn't?
But when Ember learns the accident that turned her into a freak may not've been an accident at all, she's not sure who to trust. Someone wanted her dead, and the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she is to losing not only her heart, but her life. For real this time.

And my review:

***

Yeah, the book ends well. One of those probably-happy-ever-after ending. But what if...

There would be a sequel?

Okay, that Theo guy's dead. Problem solved, right? Nope, there's still Ember's ability, which she's still struggling to control even at the end of the book. Won't that be another problem? And since that her power is unique, won't others want her power for their ends (good or dark, whatever)?

I'm not sure if I should be happy about the idea of a sequel of Cursed. I love JLA's books. I do. But Cursed is just not my cup of tea. I prefer novellas set in the world of Lux series (like Obsession) or set in the world of Covenant series (which is so very surreal, but I will love the idea). But I think that would be interesting.

Except there's a problem.

JLA is currently working on Origin and Sentinel like crazy. And she still has to write the fifth book of Lux series, Tempting The Body Guard, and maybe, the sequel of Nephilim Rising. Whether she has time to write a sequel of Cursed is questionable. I totally understand the problem. And I'm totally cool with it.

Do you guys think Cursed should be the first book of a new series or continue to stay stand-alone?

Surreal Sunday: Another Novel Set In The World of Covenant Series?

You probably know that Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout will be released in March 2013. It's set in the same world of Lux series, where the Arum in Obsession is more like good guys than the Luxen in it.

So here's what I've thought about since I know about Obsession: Will there be another novel set in the same world of Covenant series?

It seems surreal, indeed. We all know that Jennifer is very busy with Sentinel, Origin and other novels. But I can't help but daydreaming that there is a novel like that. It would be super awesome!

Wishful thinking: If there would be one, what would it talk about?

I think the whole Apollyon issue is greater than ever. So the whole book will probably not set in the same time in Covenant series. Not like Obsession. Because well, if there's a greater issue than the freaky Apollyon stuff, that will definitely affect the storyline in Covenant series. So no, this timing is not quite right.

I think after the whole Apollyon thing, there will be no more big problems. And unless there are more big problems after Covenant series, there will be few to write. If there are more pressing issues, I will definitely think of The Lost Prince. The first book of the spin-off series set in the same world of The Iron Fey: The Iron Fey: Call of The Forgotten. Got that?

Maybe this imaginary novel can also be about Apollyon issues. But set in the time of Solaris, the first-second Apollyon. That would probably be awesome, although the stakes weren't so high at that time. But if that happens, I trust JLA would make that awesome as hell.

Perhaps I should hold back from all the wishful thinking. This is so not gonna happen. Maybe the chance is just 0.0000000000000001%.

If there would be a novel set in the same world as Covenant series, what do you think it would be about?

Surreal Sunday: Another Shadowhunter Series

You read the title and might say, "The Dark Artifices? It's gonna be real." Well, I don't mean The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices or even The Dark Artifices. I mean the FORTH Shadowhunter series.

And you might be like, 1)"Hey, Cassie said that there might be one in the far future after TDA" or 2)"No way, it's getting old." And my reply is that, "Yeah, there might be another Shadowhunter series. It's never getting old, for starters, and what I mean SURREAL is my crazy thoughts about it."

So what so surreal about it?

Well, let's see. The Mortal Instruments is about present day (at least, 2007 is the PRESENT in all the Shadowhunter series). The Infernal Devices is about the past (1878) and The Dark Artifices is about the future (2012... yeah well, need I say that 2013 is coming?)

So when it comes to the forth series, I bet many dudes out there will think, "What's more to write?"

I have two theories.

One is about the very first Shadowhunter that Raziel created, which is Jonathan Shadowhunter. That is the most reasonable guess. Because no one knows what happened to him. It's gonna be interesting to see what was going on with Jonathan Shadowhunter. All the myths, all the secrets will be unearthed, I think.

Another theory is very, very unrealistic, and it's a little bit dystopian. Which means, set in the far future, even farther than 2012. Why isn't it realistic is that there might be no need for Shadowhunters in that kind of far future because of all those technology stuff. And Shadowhunters using freaking high-tech gadgets? I can't possibly imagine it.

These two theories are very crazy. Creating the very first Shadowhunter on Earth isn't the easiest thing to do. More researches, and the author needs more creative writing skills. The second theory is even crazier. Dystopian stuff in Shadowhunter series? I don't really approve it. And I'm afraid it will end up like Mystic City (Don't get me wrong, Mystic City is quite good).

You have other crazy and surreal theories? Leave me a message on the comment area below (And ask for thumbs!... Joking <<< Why did I sound so much like Daneboe?).

And the thing is, I don't even know if I absolutely like the idea of a forth Shadowhunter series.
