Top Ten Tuesday #9: Top Ten Books That Will Make Me Cry

Top Ten Tuesday is a bookish meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Today's question? Top ten books that will make me cry.

Actually, rarely do books make me cry. But there are some. Though the list will be... pretty short. (And this is not arranged in order)

1) Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare
Duh. Of course it makes me cry. Though it's more like a laugh-and-cry-at-the-same-time situation. The ending is just so perfect yet bittersweet at the very same time.

2) Champion by Marie Lu
I didn't cry like a baby or what. Maybe just a couple drop of tears. The bittersweetness combining with a new beginning... yeah, it's brings tears as well as a smile.

3) Sentinel by Jennifer L. Armentrout
(Spoiler alert!) Just when I thought there will be no happy ending for Alex and Aiden's love, the twists of things make me laugh (and cry at the same time). Because it's just so beautiful.

4) Allegiant by Veronica Roth
Anyone who's read this knows. No explanation needed.

Yeah, so here's my list. Told ya it will be short.

Have you read any books that results in your emotional breakdown? Sound off in the comments!

Listopia 2013

I can't believe it's the last day of 2013! I have quite a crazy year with all the awesome books. And I'm in high school right now (actually there's no such thing as high school in my city. But according to the U.S. educational system, I'm technically in high school). 2014 is going to be another crazy year for me as well, I believe.

And of course, the last day of 2013 comes with listopia! I really love doing that :)

Let's start with top ten best book covers, shall we?

  • Allegiant by Veronica Roth
  • Sentinel by Jennifer L. Armentrout
  • Champion by Marie Lu
  • Shards and Ashes by Melissa Marr, Kelley Armstrong and so on
  • Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare
  • Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas
  • Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout
  • Unchosen by Michele Vail
  • Boundless by Cynthia Hand
  • Resist by Sarah Crossan
My favorite part: top ten best OTP:

P.S. This is not the same as OTP in my Top Ten YA Novels announcements. They're just my choice of OTP IN the book. This is an overall top ten choice.

  • Daemon and Kat in Origin (Lux #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
  • Allison and Zeke in The Eternity Cure (Blood of Eden #2) by Julie Kagawa
  • Tris and Four in Allegiant (Divergent #3) by Veronica Roth (Despite them pissing me off, I still love them)
  • Raffe and Penryn in World After (Penryn & The End of Days #2) by Susan Ee
  • Will and Jem and Tessa (yep, the three of them) in Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices #3) by Cassandra Clare

Most anticipated novels in 2014 (Oh that's going to be a long list)

(Not in order)

6. Iniquity (The Premonition #5) by Amy A. Bartol (That is if it's actually going to be released in 2014)

Have a nice 2014!

Top Ten YA Novels 2013 #1: Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

Oh yes. My choice of the best YA novel in 2013. I miss it so much. And I'm still having withdrawals of it.

The first place belongs to:

Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

Synopsis:

Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.

Tessa Gray should be happy – aren't all brides happy? Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute.

A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. Mortmain needs only one last item to complete his plan. He needs Tessa. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa's heart, will do anything to save her.

My Rating: 11 10/10

Top 5 Reasons Why I Like It: (This is going to be hard, as I love every single thing about it)

1. How it links to other Shadowhunters series
Oh yes. One of the most powerful sources of the feels. I'm not going to explain the details of those links because they will be huge spoilers. But as much as it gives me massive amounts of heartbreak, it's completely brilliant and awe-inducing. There are no words.

2. The ending
The bittersweet ending. It's hard to explain the feelings I have for the ending. To say it vaguely, it's the best ending I've ever read. To say it in detail, well... it's really sad and mind-blowing, knowing that your favorite characters are dead already for several decades (since the ending sets in 2008, no spoilers included, cuz this is officially announced by Cassie). But it's a very nice ending for all the characters that we've grown to love because they get the closure that they want. It's very hard to write this kind of ending, but Cassie did it. And I really love it.

3. The love between Tessa, Will and Jem
Like Tessa said, it might sound mad. But there's no lack of love between the three of them. They're inseparable. It was always the three of them. And it will always be. Yes, it's a love triangle. But for the first time. No jealousy, no ugly emotions between them. Only love and care for each other. I don't understand how Cassie write this kind of relationship and make it one of the best things in the world. There are no words to describe the goodness of the three of them.

4. Cecily and Gabriel
The two of them are awesome and hilarious together. Cecily, new to the Shadow world. And Gabriel, torn between family duty and righteousness. And they collide like two perfect puzzle pieces clicked together. They make the book so much lighter and fill it with happiness. Which is kind of what I need when I read it. Well, intense is nice, but a touch of lightness makes the world a better place.

5. Parabatai
Will and Jem. The two of them will do anything for each other (well, almost anything. Depends on what that thing is). No need to say more. They're just too good to be true.

***

Why I like this book/series:

Okay, am I seriously going to do this? Yes. I love the whole series, and I suggest everyone to try it.

1. It's set in 1878, London (Victorian Era)
Set in Victorian London? This series is destined for greatness. I always have a soft spot for Victorian London because it's like the golden era of London and great stories evolved constantly. And Shadowhunters, in Victorian London? It's like the best thing ever.

2. The series is centered on the ancestors of The Mortal Instruments and The Dark Artifices' characters.
A glimpse of a family's past. This alone is fascinating enough. Not to mention we get to see Jace's, Clary's Alec's ancestors! It's mad cool. The best part is that their ancestors are very likable (I don't have a better word) too (well, most of them at least).

3. The link between series
Especially the one between The Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments. It's mind-blowing, and the wait for an answer is excruciating. The link is addicting like that. You can't miss that one, especially if you are reading both the series.

4. A touch of literature
Okay, maybe not just a touch. I'm totally not an expert on British literature. But I think they're really beautiful. And the fact that the series itself is based on a classic makes everything so much better.

5. Ducks
The hatred for ducks has evolved since I read Clockwork Angel. It's always the best part in the series. Never trust a duck.

There are just so many good things in The Infernal Devices. But I'm not going to list all. Read it yourself. It's one of the best series.

***

Top 3 Favorite Scenes:

1. The whole epilogue
See point 2 from Top 5 Reasons Why I Like It. Oh and then there's a certain ex-Silent Brother present. Best closure ever.

2. The cave scene
Ah, a Tessa/Will scene. Well, if you recall, in this year's YA Crush Tourney, Cassie promised us a short story written in Will's point of view about the cave scene if Will won the final round. He didn't. But that's not the point. I'm DYING to read his perspective concerning the cave scene!!!!!!!!!!! Hot, sweet, emotional, and completely perfect. I love the scene.

3. The Measure of Love (Chapter 24)
The whole chapter is filled with joy. And I really need some joy in the series. Like I said, intense is nice, but a touch of lightness makes the world better.

OTP:

OTP means One True Pairing. But this is not a pair.

Because my OTP is:

Will/Jem/Tessa.

Top Ten Tuesday #1: Top Ten Best/Worst Series Enders

Hi! This is my first Top Ten Tuesday post. The bookish meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Today's question is my top ten best/worst series enders.

Best 5:

1. Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

It's as beautiful as it is heartbreaking. I'm still hurting over what is inevitable and the new happiness that Tessa gains. There are no words to explain how much I love the ending of The Infernal Devices.

2. Boundless by Cynthia Hand

Another one of those endings that have you grinning broadly for at least an hour after reading the ending. And it wraps up perfectly.

3. Light by Michael Grant
A very impressive ending. Stunning, dynamic and very brutal. The perfect ending for a series as crazy and terrifying as Gone series.

4. Requiem by Lauren Oliver

Unlike many readers out there, I actually like the ending. It leaves space for imagination of the world after the success of the resistance. (Spoiler!) I mean, you can't just have Lena diving for one of the two guys at the end of the book (or diving for both). It will be unfair to both Alex and Julian (End of spoiler)

5. The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa

Okay I must say this is an ending of HEA and I'm familiar with HEA endings. I'd say the plot itself is better than the ending, but the ending fits because Ash and Meghan are just too adorable to not to be together :)

***

Worst 5 Endings:

1. Beautiful Redemption by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Sorry, the ending is just way too predictable. I mean, BEAUTIFUL REDEMPTION? You are practically saying Ethan and Lena are having a HEA together and... to be honest, I'm not a shipper of Ethan and Lena.

2. Everlasting by Alyson Noel

Okay seriously this is one of the most disappointing endings ever. What the heck is going on in this novel? Honestly, I have no idea.

3. Destined by Aprilynne Pike

Nope, I just can't. (Confession: I actually like David more than Tamani. And not only the fact that Laurel is rooting for Tamani annoys the hell out of me, I think the ending is just so typical)

4. Ceaseless by Abbi Glines

Look, I actually like this book. But for some reason the ending just doesn't do it for me.

5. Rapture by Lauren Kate

All I can say is the ending is not what I imagine and I'm quite pissed off by the ending.

Snippet, Spoiler and Cut Scene

Ooh, more extra stuff. I love it. Three things from three books by two separate authors.

1. Snippet: Sentinel by Jennifer L. Armentrout

“Poor Persephone.” He stared down his nose at the god. “That must be hard on her if that’s what gets you off.”
I wrinkled my nose.
“If her name drips from your forked tongue one more time, I will rip it out,” Hades promised, voice deadly low.
Was his tongue really forked?
His lips curled up on one side. “What? You don’t like me talking about your wife?” He looked over at the three of us. “Is abduction as a means of marriage still all the rage these days?”
Seth arched a brow.
“Uh… no,” I said, shaking my head. “It’s really frowned upon.”
Hades cheeks deepened in color. “You’re really pushing me.”
“I haven’t even begun to push," the Titan replied.
Aiden sighed and said under his breath, “Well, this conversation has really digressed.”
“Yeah,” I muttered, crossing my arms as I watched the two try to out snark each other.
This is going smoothly. Seth’s voice filtered through my thoughts.
I kept my eyes on the Titan. He’s not that… bad. I mean, all things considered, right?
His answering chuckle tugged at my lips. I sort of like him.
Of course.

***
This is awkward. But funny. Aww, I kinda like Hades, even though he's sadistic. And the Titan! A real badass. Ahh, where's Sentinel>

***

2. Spoilers: City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

More steamy scenes. More Simon and Isabelle. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Isabelle tugged her tank top back down and glared at her brother. “You don’t knock now?”

“It’s my bedroom!” Alec spluttered.

***

Aww, the classic freaked-out face on Alec! Simon and Isabelle KISSING! Looks like relationship confirmed :D

Cut Scene: Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare (P. 468)

(Avoid this if you haven't read Clockwork Princess yet)

“Tessa is awake!” Charlotte announced happily, darting through the door of her and Henry’s bedroom like an excited hummingbird.

Will, who had been sitting in the chair by Henry’s bedside, leaped immediately to his feet, the book he had been reading sliding from his lap. “Tess — Tessa’s awake?” he stammered. “And is she —”

“Yes, talking, and Brother Enoch has pronounced her quite well, if exhausted.”

“I want to see her,” Will said, and began to move toward the door, but Charlotte held up a hand.

“Give her a moment, Will; Sophie is in with her, helping her dress.”

Will knew what “helping her dress” meant: if he burst in on them now, Tessa would be in the bath. A wave of desire, mixed wit the heaviness of guilt, hit him like a train. He sat down hastily, fumbling for the book on the floor.

Charlotte looked at him, her smile curling at the corner. Clearly he was providing her some small amusement. “Have you been reading to Henry?” she asked.

“Yes, some dreadful thing, all full of poetry,” Henry said peevishly. He was fully dressed, propped on the pillows of the bed with a pen in one hand and papers scattered all over the comforter around him. Will did not blame him for his peevishness. Tessa had been asleep, and Henry abed, for three days, when the Brothers gathered the members of the Institute around Henry’s bedside to tell them that though Henry would live, he would not walk again. Even with all the magic the Brothers had at their disposal, there was no more that they could do.

Henry had met the news with his usual fortitude, and a decision to build himself a chair, like a sort of invalid’s chair but better, with self-propelling wheels and all manner of other accoutrements: he was determined that it be able to go up and down stairs, so that he could still get to his inventions in the crypt. He had been scribbling designs for the chair the whole hour that Will had been reading to him from Idylls of the King, but then poetry had never been Henry’s area of interest.

“Well, you are released from your duties, Will, and Henry, you are released from further poetry,” said Charlotte. “If you like, darling, I can help you gather your notes —”

There was a knock at the door, and Charlotte, frowning, went to see who it was. A moment later she had returned, a somber look on her face. She darted a glance at Will, and a moment later he saw why: two Silent Brothers were trailing in her wake, and one of them was Jem.

Will’s chest tightened. Since the battle at Cader Idris, he and Jem had not spoken.

Will had been sure that they were all going to die, together, there under the mountain, until Tessa had blazed up in all the glory of the Angel and struck down Mortmain like lightning striking down a tree. It had been one of the most wondrous things he had ever seen, but his wonder had been consumed quickly by terror when Tessa had collapsed after the Change, bleeding and insensible, however hard they tried to wake her. Magnus, near exhaustion, had barely been able to open a Portal back to the Institute with Henry’s help, and Will remembered only a blur after that, a blur of exhaustion and blood and fear, more Silent Brothers summoned to tend the wounded, and the news coming from the Council of all who had been killed that day before the automatons who had attacked them had collapsed upon Mortmain’s death. And Tessa — Tessa not speaking, not waking, barely breathing. Tessa being carried off to her room by the Silent Brothers and he had not been able to go with her. Being neither brother nor husband he could only stand and stare after her, closing and unclosing his blood-stained hands. Never had he felt more helpless.

And when he had turned to find Jem, to share his fear with the only other person in the world who loved Tessa as much as he did — Jem had been gone, back to the Silent City on the orders of the Brothers. Gone without even a word of goodbye.

Though Cecily had tried to soothe him, Will had been angry — angry with Jem, and even, over the ensuing days, with Charlotte, for allowing Jem to become a Silent Brother, though he knew that was unfair: that it had been Jem’s choice and the only way to keep him alive. His anger had not been helped by his panicked worry over Tessa: though her physical injuries were minor, the shock to her system of what she had done had been great, and so was her pain. He had sat with her, on and off for days, taking her hand, begging her to wake up and see him, until Charlotte had had to rouse him from where he had fallen asleep half-sprawled across her bed.

Will stared at Jem now, hard enough to bore a hole through his head, but though Jem’s hood was down, exposing his face, he was looking away from Will determinedly. His hair had begun to return to its original dark color: the dark was mixed with the silver, strand beside strand, and his eyelashes were black again, too, and brushed against the runes on his cheeks when he lowered his eyes.

They were runes only the Silent Brothers bore: they looked to Will like injuries, like gashes across Jem’s face. He felt sick inside.

Charlotte, said Brother Enoch, and held out his hand: there was a letter, sealed with the seal of the Council. I have brought a message for you.

Charlotte looked at him in bewilderment. “The Silent Brothers do not deliver letters.”

This letter is of grave importance. It is imperative that you read it now.

Slowly, Charlotte reached out and took it. She pulled at the flap, then frowned and crossed the room to take a letter-opener from her bureau. Will took the opportunity to stare harder at Jem. It did no good. Jem did not return Will’s gaze; his face was blank; there was nothing thereto hold on to. Will felt almost seasick — it was like having been a ship at anchor for years and being cut free to float on the tides, with no idea which direction to steer in. And there was Jem, his anchor, not looking at him or meeting his gaze.

The sound of tearing paper came, and they all watched as Charlotte opened the letter and read it, the color draining from her face. She lifted her eyes and stared at Brother Enoch. “Is this some sort of jest?”

There is no jest, I assure you. Do you have an answer?

“Lottie,” said Henry, looking up at his wife, even his tufts of gingery hair radiating anxiety and love. “Lottie, what is it, what’s wrong?”
She looked at him, and then back at Brother Enoch. “No,” she said. “I don’t have an answer. Not yet.”

The Council does not wish to wait.

“Well,” Charlotte said, and her voice was firm. “They will have to. Tell them I shall send an answer by day’s end.”

After a moment, Brother Enoch nodded, and turned to leave the room. Jem turned to follow.

And Will broke. He darted forward, and caught at Jem’s sleeve. The thick material of the parchment robes was slippery under his fingers. “That’s all?” he said, in a low, urgent voice. “You come back here, and you do not speak to me — or visit Tessa? Have you even formally broken your engagement, James Carstairs?”

Jem froze stock-still. Brother Enoch turned. He looked displeased, as much as any of the Brothers ever had expressions. A Silent Brother cannot marry or enter into engagements, he said, and Will could tell from the faces of those around them that he and Jem could hear the words, but no one else could. He has neither fiancƩe nor parabatai now.

Will’s hand was still on Jem’s sleeve. “You want me to tell her, then?” Will asked. Charlotte was
looking at him, shaking her head, Will, no. He knew his anger was unfair, unwarranted — Jem and Tessa’s engagement was over, shouldn’t he be glad? — but he was not glad. Grief and rage spilled like water through the cracks in his broken heart. Jem, who never hurt anyone, hurting him, hurting Tessa — and what if everything that had happened between her and Will had happened only because she thought Jem was dead, only out of the desperation of grief and the passionate human need for comfort? What if she loved Jem and longed for him forever, knowing he lived but was gone from her, with never a word from him that might provide any sort of closing of that chapter of her life? How could she bear it — how could Will bear it? What kind of future could they have? And yet there was no future for him without Tessa. “James Carstairs, do you want me to tell Tessa you are done with her, if you will not do it yourself?”

“Done with her?” Jem wrenched his sleeve from Will’s grasp, and his eyes were wide and dark and hurt, the eyes of Jem-the-child, the dark eyes Will had known growing up. “I came here because Enoch told me she had awakened,” he said, and there was an anger in his voice Will had rarely heard before. “I asked leave to speak with her one last time. You know what I feel. I will not ever be done. Not in a hundred years. Not in a thousand.” He looked from Will to Brother Enoch, and then back again. “And yet I must be. I have no choice. It’s not like you, William, not to have compassion for that.”

Will swallowed. Everything in the room seemed to have dwindled down to this, there was only him and Jem. “I thought, perhaps — being a Silent Brother — might have taken from you your capacity to feel,” he said, and then burst out, “I could not bear it, a James Carstairs who does not feel. Not just for Tessa, but for myself. If she loves only you, if she wishes to spend her life mourning your departure, I can survive that, but not the death of your heart, or of hers.”

Jem looked at him, and in the depths of his dark eyes Will saw , for a flash, the Jem he knew. “Wo men shi jie bai xiong di,” Jem said. “You would know if my heart had died, and I would know the same of you. My departure, you say, though I shall still be in the world, and yet it is as if I take sail for some unknown island, some wild place where you cannot follow. But know,” he added, in a voice that only Will could hear, “I shall do what I can to make some provision that I might see you again, and Tessa again. For you are half my heart, and she is the other. As long as I have one of you to be my north star, my heart shall not die, and I shall remain your James Carstairs.”

“Will,” Charlotte said. She sounded worried.  ”Will and J — Brother Zachariah, this is most irregular. Brother Enoch, I apologize —”

“I asked leave to speak to Will, too, before I came,” Jem said. “I was told I could have it as long as I did not speak to him or answer him while Brother Enoch was attending here to the matter of the Council.”

Will stared at him, and then at Brother Enoch, realizing with a sick drop in his stomach that he might have lost his only chance of speaking in private to Jem again — ever. Enoch’s face was blank, his expression giving nothing away.

”That is not fair!” Will said. “I addressed you first —”

Peace, little Shadowhunter, said Brother Enoch. The bonds of parabatai are understood by the Brotherhood. After all, we bound you with them ourselves. You have our leave to speak to him, one last time, before he goes.

As much as I love this little cut scene, I'm also glad that Cassie cut it out from the final version. I don't think I could handle it after all the heartbreak and excitement when I first read this book. (I'm getting much better now so I can handle it... without breaking down visually. Although I'm still having Clockwork Princess withdrawal problems after more than a month, guys.)

***

I will try not to contain spoilers on this one because that will be damndable, but believe me, that will be extremely hard.

I am still having a hard time believing that Clockwork Princess is actually released, and that the series is over. Yep, it's the final installment of the NY Times bestselling The Infernal Devices trilogy, and have a real honest-to-god ending (not like CoG, at least). And yep, it fits almost every description Cassie threw at us that will torture us to death. Almost.

I think it's safer to talk about the exciting part first (who knows talking about excitement is actually the SAFEST of all?). I do believe that my heart has been pounding like it's gonna jump out from my chest right from the start of the book (well, maybe not in the first chapter, since I've read that part). Things are just getting crazier and crazier throughout the chapters. The secrets behind all the mystery is answered. Well, nearly, I guess. They will surely leave your jaw hanging open for like... hours, I guess. Not counting the hours you are reading CP2, of course.

And the not-so-safe part, which is... Cassie's writing skills. As usual, Cassie's words are appreciative. And in Clockwork Princess, the words are like the combination of Lauren Oliver's poetic words, and Julie Kagawa's energetic words, and Veronica Roth's meaningful ones. Well, seriously, who can reject them? They are pure addiction. I am reading Clockwork Princess for the second time now. Only because her words are swirling in my head over and over. Yep, Cassie's words have that effect on me.

Here's the most dangerous part of the book: THE FEELS. Yep, we are warned in more ways than one about the feels in Clockwork Princess. And surprisingly, I'm still intact, not broken apart into trillions of pieces. I'm internally bleeding, sure. But I'm LIVING, not dying of feels. That's probably one of the most surprising thing since mankind is created. I mean, Cassie is famous for torturing hurting our fans with all kinds of feels. But this time... it's not as heart-breaking as I thought it was. But it definitely is bittersweet. And in more ways than one, very UNNERVING. But it's true. I finally get what Cassie means by "it's the only ending". And yep, I can admit that this IS the only ending that our dear characters deserve. I'm grinning and crying softly at the very same time when reading the epilogue.

But just because I'm still intact doesn't mean the internal damage didn't... you know, do its damage. I can't concentrate at school. My mind keeps popping up quotes and scenes in Clockwork Princess, even when I was having the math test. And I have to keep myself from total break-down in front of a bunch of mundanes. They were like, "are you having a fever?" Nope, they have no idea what kind of internal battle a fangirl has to fight with herself after reading a book like that.

And just because it's the highest point of bittersweetness doesn't mean there aren't any happy parts. In fact there are many. More than you thought. Hilarious part, of course. I'm still laughing at the "Benedict's speech being gibberish" part. And really sweet parts. Yep, you will surely be grinning at some point, and grinning AND crying at some other points.

I miss the characters already. Tessa, Will, Jem, Charlotte, Gideon, Sophie, Gabriel, Henry... all of them are very strong characters. They are not real people, of course. But their emotions are REAL. That's why the book is so addicting. Cassie just has the ability to make everything SO real. Reading the last book is like saying the last farewell to our fellow characters. And truthfully, I'm not prepared for it.

Here comes the fun part. The not-too-spoilery spoilers. (Yep, I promised that I will try not to contain spoilers. But I don't really think they are that spoilery...)

{BEWARE: IF YOU HATE SPOILERS, DO SKIP THIS PART}

1. What is Tessa? And what about the whole "the girl who can command the power of angels?"

Well... the answer is revealed in Clockwork Princess, obviously. But that's up to YOU to find out. I've found out, surely. :D

2. Who will Tessa end up with?

That's the part. And my answer is: Depends.

3. How is Clockwork Princess related to The Dark Artifices?

That's another exciting part too. And again, it's up to YOU to find out. Although I've already had some interesting theories in my mind...

4. Who the heck is Brother Zachariah?

That is answered in Clockwork Princess too. And believe me, once you find out, you won't be able to read City of Lost Souls (or even City of Fallen Angels) again. So who is he? Another thing that's up to YOU to find out. (I feel like I will be punched for this)

5. How can the Herondale bloodline and the Carstairs bloodline continue?

That's the huge spoiler, besides the whole "who will Tessa end up with" and "who is Brother Zach" part. I was reading the kindle version of Clockwork Princess, and the hardcover version that I pre-ordered ages ago is still shipping, I don't know EXACTLY who Emma descents from.  Although I think I have the answer for that, even though I don't have that family tree yet. Another thing that's up to YOU to find out.

(End of spoilers)

Last lines:

1) It's probably the hardest review I've written yet.

2)After reading Clockwork Princess... well, I have a feeling that City of Heavenly Fire will be much, much worse than this.

Rating: 1110/10 (I'm so very tempted to give 11 marks out of 10 XD)

A Week Of Clockwork Princess: 5 Ways to Prepare for Reading It

Can you believe this? It's less than a week until Clockwork Princess, the final installment of The Infernal Devices! Oh my god I can't believe this. The memory of complaining about waiting too long is just as fresh as if it was yesterday.

I'm not really that good at humor, so if you're confused or even offended by what I'm gonna say. Here's my early apologize (bows).

1. Prepare lots and lots of tissues.

This is probably the most heart-breaking, gut-wrenching, toes-curling, palm-twitching, teeth grinding YA book in the history of mankind. I'm quite certain weeping, crying, or even scream-crying is always an option while reading CP2. Better prepare for some Kleenex or you might end up with a soaked book. (And for some reason I think of Will's love letter for Tessa mentioned in City of Lost Souls)

2. Clean your schedule COMPLETELY.

You wouldn't want someone to disturb you while you are reading a book, especially this one. I have a feeling some fans will be tempted to fire bullets to those who disturb them from reading (I'm one of those too, although I certainly don't have a gun). So clean your schedule and few will stand in your way. (But this task is impossible for me because I always have to do my homework and do revision, especially when the Test is so freaking close *Ugh)

3. Turn off your cell phone AND KEEP IT AWAY FROM YOU.

Yep. This is for the exact same reason as preparation 2. It will be extremely interesting to see a fan firing curses at her/his friends if they disturb her/him. But why keeping it away from you? I don't think you want a broken cell phone after reading Clockwork Princess. That will be plain suck.

4. Prepare yourself a glass of tea that can make you relaxed.

Tea is a thing that can't be missed out when reading a book. At least that's my case (although sometimes coffee will do too). But I think you should at least prepare yourself a glass of warm water because warm water has the effect of relaxation on people. Your nerves will probably just snap apart if there isn't anything to keep you calm while reading this mind-blowing installment (even remotely). Although I wouldn't suggest it to one of those extreme cases, like when you are one of those crazy enough people that will throw a cup full of water against a wall.

5. Remove the cover BEFORE reading it.

Why? I think the probability of throwing the book across the room will be much higher than throwing a cup full of water/tea/coffee/whatever it's in it. So please, if you think the mental break down will result in a flying book across your room, remove the cover before start reading it. I have a not-so-appealing experience on this. I literally threw my copy of CLOCKWORK PRINCE (yep, you read it right. Clockwork Prince) across my room after I read chapter 20 (The Bitter Root) and... I nearly destroyed the cover. So I advice you to remove the cover, seriously.

That is, if you are having the hardcover edition of it. I don't think you can't remove the cover if it's a paperback version?

***

Are there any more ways out there that can help prepare to read Clockwork Princess? Because I feel like I haven't prepared any of it (And the sad thing is, I've got more than a year to prepare for the massive mental breakdown)

19) Burning Gold
20) Thunder in the Trumpet

***

Chapter 14: Parabatai is really getting on some of my nerves. Obviously parabatai means Will and Jem. Why? I think there's something really bad happened to either/both of them. My mind just can't take the message. Ugh.

Chatper 18: The Infernal Devices...? I think it's related to this single snippet:

THE INFERNAL DEVICES ARE WITHOUT PITY.

THE INFERNAL DEVICES ARE WITHOUT REGRET.

THE INFERNAL DEVICES ARE WITHOUT NUMBER.

THE INFERNAL DEVICES WILL NEVER STOP COMING.

(written on a wall in blood in Clockwork Princess)

Jeez, things are getting crazy. I haven't even had my dinner yesterday. I can't take it anymore.

Chapter 22: The Measure of Love. Why do I have the feeling that something unnerving (or worse, dreadful) will happen? Emotionally, of course. Damn, why does Cassie have the ability to catch me off guard whenever I watch something about Clockwork Princess? How can I prepare for THIS?

The epilogue is the worst of all. Two words "present day" is enough to make me scream my head off and curling my fingers into my hair.

Yep, it's official: I have more than a year to prepare for Clockwork Princess, yet I'm still not ready.

Unlock The FIRST Chapter of Clockwork Princess!

(Fangirl Screaming) Finally we have our chance to read the very first chapter of Clockwork Princess EARLY!

Just tweet this on your Twitter and you can read one more WORD (yep, word. Frustrating, isn't it?) in the first chapter:

Tweet it here:

http://shadowhunters.com/clockworkprincess/

If you want a snippet of what will happen in the first chapter, here's it:

“Write to them, Will,” said Cecily Herondale. “Please. Just one letter.”

Will tossed his sweat-soaked dark hair back and glared at her. “Get your feet into position,” was all he said. He pointed, with the tip of his dagger. “There, and there.”

Cecily sighed, and moved her feet. She had known she was out of position; she’d been doing in intentionally, to needle Will. It was easy to needle her brother. That much she remembered about him from when he had been twelve years old. Even then daring him to do anything, even climb the steeply pitched roof of their manor house, had resulted in the same thing: an angry blue flame in his eyes, a set jaw, and sometimes Will with a broken leg or arm at the end of it.

Of course this brother, the nearly adult Will, was not the brother she remembered from her childhood. He had grown both more explosive and more withdrawn. He had all their mother’s beauty, and all their father’s stubbornness — and, she feared, his propensity for vices, though she had guessed that only from whispers among the occupants of the Institute.

“Raise your blade,” Will said. His voice was as cool and professional as her governess’.

Cecily raised it. It had taken her some time to get used to the feel of gear against her skin: the loose tunic and trousers, the belt around her waist. Now she moved in it as comfortably as she had ever moved in the loosest nightdress. “I don’t understand why you won’t consider writing a letter. A single letter.”

“I don’t understand why you won’t consider going home,” Will said. “You are not made of Shadowhunter stuff, Cecy; you only came here to convince me to go home with you, and that I will not do. If you would just agree to return home yourself, you could stop worrying about our parents and I could arrange —”

Cecily interrupted him, having heard this speech a thousand times. “Would you consider a wager, Will?”

Cecily was both pleased and a little disappointed to see Will’s eyes spark, just the way her father’s always did when a gentleman’s bet was suggested. Men were so easy to predict, she thought.

“What sort of a wager, Cecily?” Will took a step forward; he was wearing gear; Cecily could see the Marks that twined his wrists, the mnemosyne rune on his throat. It had taken her some time to see the Marks as something other than disfiguring her brother, but she was used to them now — as she had grown used to the gear, to the great echoing halls of the Institute, and to its peculiar denizens. She pointed at the wall in front of them. An ancient target had been painted on the wall in black: a bull’s eye inside a larger circle. “If I hit the center of that three times, you have to write a letter to Da and Ma and tell them how you are. You must tell them of the curse and why you left.”

Will’s face closed like a door, the way it always did when she made this request. But, “You’ll never hit it three times without missing, Cecy.”

“Well, then it should be no great concern to you to make the bet, William.” She used his full name purposefully and coolly; she knew it bothered him, coming from her, though when his best friend — no, his parabatai, she had learned since coming to the Institute that these were quite different things — Jem did it, he seemed to take it as a term of affection. Possibly it was because he still had memories of her toddling after him on chubby legs, calling Will, Will, after him in breathless Welsh. She had never called him William, only ever Will or his Welsh name, Gwilym.

His eyes narrowed, those dark-blue eyes the same color as her own. When their mother had said affectionately that Will would be a breaker of hearts when he was grown, Cecily had always looked at her dubiously. Will, it seemed to Cecily, was all arms and legs, skinny and disheveled and always dirty. She could see it now, though, had seen it when she had first walked into the dining room of the Institute and he had stood up in astonishment, and she had thought: That can’t be Will.

He had turned those eyes on her, her mother’s eyes, and she had seen the anger in them. He had not been pleased to see her, not at all. And where there had been a skinny boy with a wild tangle of black hair like a Gypsy’s and leaves in his clothes had been in her memories was this tall, frightening man instead. The words she had wanted to say had dissolved on her tongue and she had only matched him, glare for glare. And so it had been since, Will barely enduring her presence as if she were a pebble in his shoe, a constant annoyance.

Cecily took a deep breath, raised her chin, and threw the first knife. Will did not know, would never know, of the hours she had spent up her, alone, practicing, learning to balance the weight of the knife in her hand, discovering that a good knife throw began from behind the body. She held both arms out straight now and drew her right arm back, behind her head, before bringing it, and the weight of her body, forward — the tip of the knife was in line with the target — she released it and snapped her hand back, sucking in a gasp.

The knife stuck, point-down in the wall, exactly in the center of the target.

“One,” Cecily said, giving Will a superior smile.

He looked at her stonily, yanked the knife from the wall, and handed it to her again.

Cecily threw it. The second throw, like the first, flew direct to its target and stuck there, vibrating like a mocking finger.

“Two,” Cecily said, in a sepulchral tone.

Will’s jaw set as he took the knife again and presented it to her. She took it with a smile. Confidence was flowing through her veins like new blood. She knew she could do this. She had always been able to climb as high as Will, run as fast, hold her breath as long …

She threw the knife. It struck its target and she leaped into the air, clapping her hands, forgetting herself for a moment in the thrill of victory. Her hair came down from its pins and spilled into her face; she pushed it back and grinned at Will. “You shall write that letter. You gave your word.”

To her surprise, he smiled at her. “Oh, I will write it,” he said. “I will write it, and then I will throw it in the fire.” He held up a hand against her outburst of indignation. “I said I would write it. I never said I would send it.”

Cecily’s breath went out of her in a gasp. “How dare you trick me like that!”

“I told you that you were not made of Shadowhunter stuff, or you would not be so easily fooled. I am not going to write a letter, Cecy, it’s against the Law, and that’s the end of it.”

“As if you care about the Law!” Cecily stamped her foot, and was immediately more annoyed than ever; she detested girls who stamped their feet.

Will’s eyes narrowed. “And you don’t care about being a Shadowhunter. How is this: I shall write a letter and give it to you if you promise to deliver it home yourself — and not to return.”

Cecily recoiled; she had many memories of shouting matches with Will, of the china dolls she had owned that he had broken by dropping them out an attic window; but there was also kindness in her memories: the brother who had bandaged up a cut knee, or retied her hair ribbons when they came loose. That kindness was absent from the Will who stood before her now. Her mother had used to cry for the first year or two after Will went; she had said, in Welsh, holding Cecily to her, that they — the Shadowhunters — would “take all the love out of him.” A cold, unloving people, she had told Cecily, who had forbidden her marriage to her husband. What could he want with them, her Will, her little one?

“I will not go,” Cecily said, staring her brother down. “And if you insist that I must, I will — I will —”

The door of the attic slid open and Jem stood silhouetted in the doorway. “Ah,” he said, “threatening each other, I see. Has this been going on all afternoon or did it just begin?”

“He began it,” Cecily said, jerking her chin at Will, though she knew it was pointless. Jem, Will’s parabatai, treated her with the distant sweet kindness reserved for the little sisters of one’s friends, but he would always side with Will. Kindly, but firmly, he put Will above everything else in the world.

Well, nearly everything. She had been most struck by Jem when she had first come to the Institute — he had an unearthly, unusual beauty, with his silvery hair and eyes, and the delicate foreignness to his features. He looked like a prince in a fairy tale book, and she might have considered developing an attachment to him were it not so absolutely clear that he was entirely in love with Tessa Gray. His eyes followed her where she went, and his voice changed when he spoke to her. Cecily had once heard her mother say in amusement that one of their neighbors’ boys looked at a girl as if she were “the only star in the sky” and that was the way Jem looked at Tessa.

Cecily didn’t resent it: Tessa was pleasant and kind to her, if a little shy, and with her face always stuck in a book like Will. If that was the sort of girl Jem wanted, she and he never would have suited — and the longer she remained at the Institute, the longer she realized how awkward it would have made things with Will. He was ferociously protective of Jem, and he would have watched her constantly in case she ever distressed or hurt Jem in any way. No — she was far better out of the whole thing.

“I was just thinking of bundling up Cecily and feeding her to the ducks in Hyde Park,” said Will, pushing his wet hair back and favoring Jem with a rare smile. “I could use your assistance.”

“Unfortunately, you may have to delay your plans for sorocide a bit longer. Gabriel Lightwood is downstairs and I have two words for you. Two of yourfavorite words, at least when you put them together.”

“Utter simpleton?“ inquired Will. “Worthless upstart?”

Jem grinned. “Demon pox,” he said.

***

Response: For the first time, I feel bad for Cecily. Unlike other fans, I just can't bring myself like her. But this time, she was just trying to get him write to Will's parents. At least, that's what I hope so. And Will... well, I can imagine why Will didn't want to write his parents, but his attitude is really bad. And... aw, did that demon pox thing ever bring out laughter from me. And the ducks! I miss the Will-hating ducks XD.

But the Wilds are no longer a safe haven—pockets of rebellion have opened throughout the country, and the government cannot deny the existence of Invalids. 5. Raven (Delirium #2.5) by Lauren Oliver

Synopsis:

This captivating 50-page digital-original story set in the world of Lauren Oliver’s New York Times bestselling Delirium series focuses on Raven, the fiery leader of a rebel group in the Wilds.

As a teenager, Raven made the split-second decision to flee across the border to the Wilds, compelled to save an abandoned newborn—a baby girl left for dead and already blue from the cold. When she and the baby are taken in by a band of rebels, Raven finds herself an outsider within a tight-knit group. The only other newcomer is an untrustworthy boy known as the Thief until he finally earns himself a new name: Tack.

Now she and Tack are inseparable, committed to each other, the fledgling rebellion, and a future together. But as they both take center stage in the fight, Raven must decide whether the dangers of the revolution are worth risking her dreams of a peaceful life with Tack.

As her story hurtles back and forth between past and present, Raven transforms from a scared girl newly arrived in the Wilds to the tough leader who helps Lena save former Deliria-Free poster boy Julian Fineman from a death sentence. Whatever the original mission may have been, Raven abides by a conviction that she believes to her core: You always return for the people you love.

By turns surprising, revelatory, and poignant, Raven’s story enriches the Delirium world and resonates with a voice that is as vulnerable as it is strong.

Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?
