Renegade (ARC): Review

Synopsis:

There is no one left for Mila to trust. Except for a boy she barely knows.

But Hunter has no idea who—and what—Mila really is. She can’t bear to reveal her secret, even though he’s unwittingly joined her search for Richard Grady, a man who may know more details of Mila’s complicated past.

Yet the road to the truth is more dangerous than ever. With General Holland and the Vita Obscura scouring the earth for her whereabouts, Mila must rely on her newfound android abilities to protect herself and Hunter from imminent harm. Still, embracing her identity as a machine leads her to question the state of her humanity—as well as Hunter’s real motives.

Perfect for fans of I Am Number Four and Divergent, this action-packed and heart-wrenching second installment of MILA 2.0 will leave readers breathlessly awaiting the series conclusion.

I have to say Renegade is so much better than the first one! Although there are times where I don't really enjoy the book, It's a freaking exciting sequel! In Renegade, Mila is on the run, with Hunter by her side. But as they travel from one place to another (which is a pretty long trip), Mila starts thinking that maybe someone is not as he/she seems. She has to rely on her strength in order to survive.

Despite the first part being very... um, teenager, because of all the teenage love and stuff, the rest of the story is really action-packed and nerve-wrecking. It's kinda hard to describe that feeling, but it's like you have a feeling that something is about to happen and then the exact opposite happens. The fact is pretty surprising, considering the fact that I thought MILA 2.0 is no astounding at all. A very nice improvement I see there.

Mila, however, is not as good as in MILA 2.0 anymore. She still has the edge that Three doesn't have. But for some reason the edge has been smoothed. She's so human that it seems like the android part has vanished into thin air, which is not something I like, because she's supposed to be an android with plenty of humanity. Not the other way around. However, I do want to say this: something will happen to Mila that will make our jaws drop, and that part is pretty darn awesome.

Renegade is, by far, so much better than its prequel. Although there are flaws, I'm satisfied and I really want to know what will happen next.

Cover Reveal: Renegade by Debra Driza

This cover is awesome! Even more so then Mila 2.0. I can't wait how Renegade turns out even though I'm not that thrilled with the first one.

No synopsis is released yet.

Damn, Mila looks more mature this time. Maybe she is at some point even though she's supposed to be... well, not human.

And I love the expression "unable to die". Sounds like she prefers death than whatever happens in this book...

Renegade will be released on May 13, 2014

Short Story Review Sunday (Saturday Edition): Origins: The Fire by Debra Driza

Synopsis:

Heart-stopping and electric, MILA 2.0: Origins: The Fire contains a short prequel story and an excerpt to MILA 2.0, the first book in a riveting Bourne Identity–style trilogy by Debra Driza.

Mila can't remember anything before the fire that took her father's life. It's normal to have some memory loss after traumatic events, but Mila doesn't remember if she's ever learned to ride a bike, or if she's ever been in love. Nothing.

What she doesn't know is that she isn't supposed to remember—that she was built in a computer science lab and programmed to forget. Because if she remembers, she might discover her true identity.

The question is: If she relived the fire, what would she see?

(Short Story = Short Review)

Origins: The Fire is the prequel of Mila 2.0. And man, it is by far the shortest short story/prequel I've ever read (16% of the Kindle download)! But it's nice. Starting with action sequence is really a great opening. This story is set right before Mila 2.0. And it gives us a brief sense of what we're getting into. Despite its shortness, it's a really strong prequel and electric. I really hope that I read this BEFORE I read Mila 2.0 because that will be much better.

MILA 2.0: Review

Synopsis:

Mila 2.0 is the first book in an electrifying sci-fi thriller series about a teenage girl who discovers that she is an experiment in artificial intelligence.

Mila was never meant to learn the truth about her identity. She was a girl living with her mother in a small Minnesota town. She was supposed to forget her past—that she was built in a secret computer science lab and programmed to do things real people would never do.

Now she has no choice but to run—from the dangerous operatives who want her terminated because she knows too much and from a mysterious group that wants to capture her alive and unlock her advanced technology. However, what Mila’s becoming is beyond anyone’s imagination, including her own, and it just might save her life.

Mila 2.0 is Debra Driza’s bold debut and the first book in a Bourne Identity-style trilogy that combines heart-pounding action with a riveting exploration of what it really means to be human. Fans of I Am Number Four will love Mila for who she is and what she longs to be—and a cliffhanger ending will leave them breathlessly awaiting the sequel.

Now I see why this book gets a high rating in a lot of blogs. I first read this book because I think the book will be interesting because Mila is MILA. I'm always into android stuff (that's why I love Lunar Chronicles). And okay, even though this is not the MOST exciting book I've read, it has a really good start for a trilogy. I do believe that this book is a little bit underrated and the sequel of MILA 2.0 will be better.

So here's Mila, being isolated by her new friends in Clearwater high. Fascinates a boy. What ordinary problems they are. But Mila herself is anything but ordinary. Both physically and mentally. Yep, you can probably get the idea that Mila is an... hmm, I guess you can say she's an android. An intelligent android built for military usage. But what truly is extraordinary about her is that she's so human. Sometimes more human than her human friends. How can you imagine an ANDROID girl, who is created to follow orders, can actually have real human feelings and defy her creators? That's brilliant, and what a secret that is.

MILA 2.0 is not like another book you've read. Yep, there are similar ones like The Lunar Chronicles. But they are entirely different. I mean, Cinder is not exactly a cyborg. But Mila IS an android, built ENTIRELY in a lab. And there are running-for-life scenes. Not exactly breath-taking, but exciting enough to read. I enjoy reading this book very much. It's like watch a sci-fi action movie. And believe me, I don't have high expectations on this book at first. But I stand corrected. MILA 2.0 is stunning. I think I will read the sequel. Oh, definitely.
