Tempting The Bodyguard: Review

Synopsis:

A sexy category romance from Entangled’s Brazen imprint...

He can protect her from everyone except himself.

Alana Gore is in danger. A take-no-prisoners publicist, her way with people has made her more than a few enemies over the years, but a creepy stalker is an entirely different matter. She needs a bodyguard, and the only man she can ask is not only ridiculously hot, but reputed to have taste for women that goes beyond adventurous.

Chandler Gamble has one rule: don't protect anyone you want to screw. But with Alana, he's caught between his job and his increasingly hard libido. On one hand, Alana needs his help. On the other, Chandler wants nothing more than to take the hot volcano of a woman in hand. To make her writhe in pleasure, until she's at his complete mercy.

She needs protection. He needs satisfaction. And the moment the line is crossed, all hell will break loose...

(Contain spoilers of Tempting The Player)

I was very excited to read this book. I ended up a little disappointed though.

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice story. The sexual tension is still high up in the air. And there's great chemistry between Alana and Chandler. I also like Chandler's go-for-it attitude and his lack of hesitation when it comes to getting what he wants. However, there's something a little bit wrong about the story, which I can't put my finger on, and it is frustrating. That kind of gives the book an edge (and not in a really good way).

Although Alana and Chandler is a funny pair, and the chemistry is practically sizzling in the air, as well as tension and attraction, the problems between their relationship aren't as real as I thought it would be. There is no actual fear for relationship problems whatsoever. Which is why I kind of don't get the two of them. What is with all the pushing away from one of the sides (not going to talk about which, because it's spoiler)?

However, I do have to say that the danger element is the best. Because someone is actually in danger. Like real mortal danger at some point. Which is not present in the previous two Gamble Brothers books. I wish this plot could be developed more deeply (even though I know this is not mainly about danger and suspense) because that would be pretty awesome.

There's a part where I want to read about, and I actually read about it, but I'm not exactly satisfied. It's Chad's reaction when Alana and Chandler's relationship are revealed. I really want to see the priceless WTF?! expression on Chad's face because that will be seriously funny. It's still present, but it's not... well, to put it in a blunt way, the expression is not that WTF?!. It's kinda underwhelming, because I was anticipating for that part.

It's quite a story, but it's not the best out of the three.

Be With Me (ARC): Review

Synopsis:

Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn’t spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, change-your-life kiss. She got out of a terrible relationship. And now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for Plan B – college. And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.

Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.

As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not…

***

Be with me is Teresa and Jase's story. It's a pretty good story, even though I know enough that the plot itself is not... okay, it's totally not that common, but it's not that original. Teresa is very likable in Wait For You, even more so in Be With Me. She's straightforward and honest, which is something you don't see everyday, especially about the straightforward part. And apparently Jase isn't only the bad boy we know in Wait For You. He has secrets too. Secrets that he's still roaming over and still cannot get over. With characters like these two, the intensity of the story is a "great'.

Another good part is that Cam and Avery make quite a few appearance and still, cute as ever. I really miss the two of them. They're one of the best couples ever. And their presence makes the book even more amazing. The brotherly love Cam has for Teresa is really admirable. Actually these are my favorite parts. Because they're not just awesome. They're pretty amusing too.

But despite the goodness in the book (which is a lot, and I won't go through them all, otherwise you wouldn't have to read it), it just doesn't have the same magic on me like Wait For You does. I can't exactly tell you the root of it, but it just can't hold my attention as firmly as Wait For You does. The reason can be that the two of them are just not Avery and Cam. It can be as weird as that. But well, I just doesn't feel the chemistry between Jase and Teresa as much as I do with Avery and Cam.

Be With Me is actually quite a good NA novel. And I know that many loves Teresa and Jase's story (so do I, actually, although I didn't sound like it). It might not work for me that well, but the fact is that it's a pretty great novel.

Trust In Me: Review

Synopsis:

It’s Wait for You as you’ve never seen it. Trust in Me lets you in on Cam’s side of the #1 New York Times Bestselling story.

Cameron Hamilton is used to getting what he wants, especially when it comes to women. But when Avery Morgansten comes crashing into his life – literally – he finally meets the one person who can resist his soulful baby blues. But Cam’s not ready to give up. He can’t get the feisty and intriguing girl out of his head.

Avery has secrets, secrets that keep her from admitting the feelings Cam knows she has for him. Will persistence (and some delicious homemade cookies) help him break down her barriers and gain her trust? Or will he be shut out of Avery's life, losing his first real shot at the kind of love that lasts forever?

***

This. Book. Is. So. CUTE. Wait For You in Cam's point of view? Hell yeah! I'm pretty surprised Trust In Me covers nearly all the moments Cam has with Avery. I thought the book would only cover some of the top moments in Wait For You (especially one that involves... well, cookies). But I'm really really happy to read a full point of view of Cam's! My favorite part is probably the Shortcake part. (Spoiler!) That's the one thing that I didn't expect from this book because it doesn't show up at all in Wait For You (End of Spoiler). But it's pretty cute for Cam to think of Avery like that.

I really like Avery's perspective in Wait For You because she's interesting and she doesn't talk shit. But it's a whole new experience to read Cam's point of view in the events of Wait For You. We finally get a real glimpse of the perfect, sweet and confident boy we're pretty familiar with in Wait For You. I know that he, like Avery, has some personal issues. But it never occurred to me that much until I read Trust In Me. But no, I don't loathe him or something like that. If this changes anything, those "shitty" things (mind my words, but I can't think of a better way to express it) only makes Cam's character more real.

The one thing that makes me grin like an idiot is that there are some moments in the book that is not shown in Wait For You. And trust me, you will like these moments. I'm not going to elaborate to much because I think I've done quite a lot of spoilery stuff these days. But let's just say that those are something you wouldn't want to miss.

If you are a fan of Wait For You, make sure you read it. I read it, and my grin is so wide that my friends thought I was smacked by a silly stick or something.

Unchained: Review

Synopsis:

Between the pissed off creatures that want demon-hunter Lily Marks dead and the fallen angel who just...wants her, Lily is about ready to trade in forever for a comfy job in a cubicle farm.

The fact that she and Julian are civil to one another is enough to have her thrown out of the Sanctuary, but she can't shake her not-so-angelic stalker or how he brings her dangerously close to ecstasy.

Her forbidden relationship with Julian provides the perfect fuel for suspicion when a traitor is discovered to be working within the Sanctuary. Lily quickly finds herself hunted by well, everyone.

Her only hope is to discover the real traitor before she loses everything--and she'll need Julian's help. That is, if Julian is really there to help her...and not destroy her.

Yeah, being a Nephilim isn't everything it's cracked up to be.

***

Unchained is about the battle between good Nephilim and Fallen/minions/deadheads. And if you think Nephilim is divine, then you are wrong. Yes, there are the good ones, but they are all from the same origin (at least, that's what they believe). Yep, being a Nephilim isn't everything it's cracked up to be. I'm kinda surprised that Jennifer will write a story about Nephilim. Not that writing about Nephilim is anything wrong but it sounds more ordinary than Lux and Covenant if you haven't actually read the whole thing.

I have some minor problems about this. It starts out a little bit too slow. It's still hilarious but besides the whole there-is-a-traitor-in-the-Sanctuary thing and Michael's training, there's nothing big going on. I understand the importance of those lines but that doesn't mean I'm not a little bored. And the first few parts of Michael's perspective also bores me a little until I can get the importance of his part.

The characters are well-developed. Not as strong and lively as those in Lux and Covenant but definitely good enough. Lily is a bad-ass Nephilim, and she's strong-willed. She may not be my favorite character but she's a good protagonist. Julian... well, for some reason I don't have devotion for him. I like that guy, but only as a good character not as a swoon-worthy character. Michael's personality is a bit unclear. He's innocent comparing to other Nephilim. I'm not sure about my feelings towards him but I think he has potential to be a great character.

My favorite part? Oh yeah, a book about Nephilim is often involved with some sort of battle. And we totally get a good one. It's not as brutal as that in Apollyon (where Alex and her crew defeats those bronze bulls). But it's totally a battle with combats. Unless the fighting is damn awesome by definition, I normally don't accept battles without some sort of combats. Luckily we get a real great one. Thumbs up.

Frigid: Review

Synopsis:

For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn't anything new. They'd been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the 'man' in man-whore. He's never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn't want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she's perfect and she's everything. But the feelings he has for her, he's always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.

But when they're stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor'easter, there's nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

***

Frigid is very good. In some aspects it is even better than Wait For You. But unlike Wait For You, I only give this a 4 out of 5 instead of a 5. Because there's a major problem here. It seems like there's no real problems between Sydney and Kyler's relationship other than... well, Kyler being a man-whore. Okay, in Wait For You there's also no real problems between Avery and Cam other than Avery not being able to tell the truth. But hey, at least Avery has good reasons, while Kyler does not. So I'm a little annoyed by this. But other than that, everything is good.

The writing is perfect. With all the hyphened words, everything is much hilarious, because for some reason I love hyphened words. They are smooth, especially in Sydney-and-Kyler-having-intimate-aka-sex-moments. The book is also not one of those dragging-outs, which makes reading this real fast and that kind of does it. How can I not love a book written so good?

Kyler is no perfect guy. He has a reputation as a man-whore, come on. But just because he has this kind of reputation doesn't mean he's not good. In fact he's sweet and caring, especially to Sydney. If you read the book, you can totally see Kyler putting Sydney above everything, certainly above himself. The most amusing and cutest part is that Kyler tries very hard to remember the girl who literally throws herself to him because he doesn't want the girl to be unhappy. I giggle hard at that. Hey, I can totally swoon all over him.

Sydney is good too. For one thing, she's honest to herself, because I'm a little tired seeing female characters denying what is in their heart. At least she's honest about loving Kyler for ever. And she's very sweet because of her naivete. You know, just wanting to date some nice and fun guy, like every other girls, and she rarely complains about her problems (many that involves with Kyler!). That's one girl I would like to befriend.

Overall the book is being short and sweet and totally all-out swoon-worthy. If you like NA novels, dive for this one because you will fall in love with it.

Teaser Thursday: Tempting The Bodyguard by J.Lynn

Teaser THURSDAY? Really? Isn't it Teaser Tuesday? But whatever. We have one sexy snippet from Tempting The Bodyguard, the third book of Gamble Brothers series.

Struggling to get a grip on her quickly rising anger, she snapped the file folder against his chest. “Do you want to look at them? Or do you want to continue staring at my breasts like a pig?”
That ghost of smile spread into a full smirk. “I think I’ll keep staring at your breasts like a pig.”
“Well, that’s lovely.”
“They sure are,” he replied.
Alana took one deep, even breath. “Mr. Gamble, I’m here—”
“Because you need my help,” he interrupted. “I got that.”
“And I’m trying to show you what I’ve been receiving.” She smacked the folder off his chest once again. “So can we— ”
His hand shot out, as fast as a cobra striking, startling her. He wrapped his fingers around her wrist, gently but firmly. Lowering his head, his lips came within an inch of hers. So close she could taste the minty scent of his breath. “While I liked to be smacked in the chest with random objects from time to time, you keep it up, I’m going to think that’s an invitation for me to return the favor.”
Her mouth dropped open.
“On a different part of the body,” he added, winking. “And with my hand.”

Wait For You: Review

Synopsis:

Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

***

I think this is the first NA novel I read in 2013 (or is that the third? Because I don't know if Tempting The Best Man or Tempting The Player are NA novels). And I have a really good time with it. The plot is surprisingly contemporary. Surprising, probably because I'm used to Covenant series and Lux series, which is about, well, supernatural things of course. And even though JLA also writes Gamble Brothers series, she as a YA novel writer has been sticking in my head since, like forever.

The humor. Aww, the HUMOR. JLA never cease to amaze me with her sense of humor. Every time I thought that this can't be more hilarious, JLA can always take this to another new epic level. That's one constant reason why I love JLA's books so much. Although I have to say there's less humor parts than usual, which is... a little disappointing, but fine for me.

But don't get me wrong. This book contains so much fun parts. From the day Cam and Avery first met, there are all kinds of awkward moments, bickering, giggling and fun moments which is really enjoying to read. The words are so clever that they are like the best thing in my life. Another reason why I love JLA's books so much. She just can play with words like no other. And few can do that.

Fantasy is a big part of Covenant series and Lux series, so sexual quality time is not the most important thing of these two series (Although I have to say sex between Alex and Aiden is smoking hot!). But this is an NA novel, and some heart-to-heart quality time and sexual moments is... kind of like an essential part of this book. It's beautiful, and all kinds of fun. Can you imagine your chest swelling in happiness while you're laughing your head off? Absolutely the best moments of my life, like for real.

Yep, and there's the plot. It's sad to say there is little remarkable stuff of the plot, even though what Avery's facing for five years makes me upset. But I think that's what a contemporary novel means. Although I think the book will be more interesting if the plot is more twisted.

But overall, the book is awesome. JLA give me a great time reading NA novels. I think I'm officially going to hunt for some of those. I hope JLA will write more NA novels. I will definitely read it.

(Last line: The best part of all these is that you know JLA is very busy with many other series because she's the writing ninja, yet the book can still be so good)

Rating: 8.5/10

Frigid Teaser

Squee! We now have the teaser of Frigid!

Strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind. I was pulled off the stool and my surprised shriek was cut off when my back hit an immoveable wall of muscle. I was enveloped in a bear hug that smelled of the outdoors and light cologne.
Only one person in this world gave me hugs like this or felt that hard… that good.
Kyler’s deep voice rumbled through my body. “When did you get here?”
My feet still weren’t touching the floor. “A little bit ago,” I gasped out, gripping his forearms through his sweater.
“What the hell? Have you been hiding from me?”
Paul leaned back against the bar and grinned, but it was strained. Not that I could blame him. Kyler kind of always busted in and took over every situation. “I haven’t been hiding,” I told him, flushing when my eyes met Paul’s. “And can you put me down?”
“What if I don’t?” he teased. “You’re so little I could put you in my pocket.”
“What?” I laughed. “Put me down, you idiot. I was having a conversation.”
“Sorry, Paul, I’m stealing her.” Kyler backed away, giving me no choice, because there was no way I was breaking his hold. He turned, dropping into a chair nowhere near the table he’d been at, pulling me into his lap so I was sitting sideways. He looped his arms around my waist. “I’m not happy with you, Syd.”
I arched a brow as my heart rate picked up. He was the only person who called me Syd; the only person I let call me that without kicking them in the shin. “Really? Over what?”
“You’re talking to that douche.”
“What douche?”
He leaned in, resting his forehead against mine, and my breath stalled in my chest. Why must he always get so damn close? And he really, truly, always did. “Paul.”
“What about him?” I put my hands on his shoulders to push back, but his arms tightened, holding me in place. “Are you drunk?”
“Am I drunk? Aw, now you’ve gone and hurt my feelings, Syd.”
I smirked. “You don’t have any feelings.”
“Now. Now. That wasn’t very nice.” His impossibly long lashes lowered, shielding his eyes as he lifted his head, rubbing his cheek along mine. My fingers dug into his shoulders as desire twisted tight in my center. “I have all these feels, Syd.”
It took me a moment to respond. “You’re so full of it.”
He rubbed his cheek against me like a cat seeking a belly rub, and I fought the urge to purr. “I’m full of something.”
“Piss and vinegar?” I suggested as I desperately tried to ignore the way my pulse pounded in all the right places.”
He chuckled deep in his throat as he leaned back against the seat he took hostage. “Back to the serious nature of our conversation.”
“Which is: why are you playing Santa right now?”
Kyler’s lashes lifted and his eyes drilled into mine. “Hmm, now that sounds interesting. Have you’ve been naughty or nice this year, Syd?”
I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. My cheeks burned as his gaze turned knowing.
“I know what you’ve been.” He kissed my forehead. “You’ve been nice.”
My shoulders slumped. I didn’t want to be nice. I wanted to be naughty like Blondie. When she’d been in his lap minutes before, I doubted Kyler had been teasing her. Maybe I should scoop some ice up and see what he did, except that would require me doing so out of a random glass and that was just gross.

Tempting The Player: Review

Wow, the second book of the Gamble Brothers series, and the second book I read this year!

 Summary:

Chad Gamble, all-star pitcher for the Nationals, is one of the best players on—and off—the field. And right now, the notorious bad boy wants Bridget Rodgers. But with her lush curves and snappy comebacks, the feisty redhead is the kind of woman a man wants to settle down with…and that’s the last thing Chad needs.

When the paparazzi catch them in a compromising position, Chad’s manager issues an ultimatum: clean up his act or kiss his multi-million dollar contract goodbye. To save his career, his meddling publicist says he'll have to convince everyone Bridget isn’t just his flavor of the week, but his girlfriend.

Being blackmailed into a fake relationship with Chad Gamble isn’t easy, especially when the sizzling physical attraction between them is undeniable. With a month to go on their arranged pretense, it's going to take every ounce of willpower they have not to fall into bed together...or in love.

Well, it's still good, with the JLA writing style, it's hard not to like this book. But comparing with Tempting The Best Man, I like the first book more. More innocent, I think?

This is a fun book. Faking relationship with all the jokes and bickering is always entertaining. But then, real emotions behind a fake relationship will always bring out "ahhh"s from me. Chad and Bridget's relationship really struck me speechless... in a totally good way. Yeah, playboy meets the good girl and then chemistry begins. What's not to love? Especially Chad is a HOT playboy.

Another awesome thing about this book is that Madison and Chase is still here. I really like this couple cuz they are quite cute together... with all the past bickering and CURRENT bickering. It kind of links me back to Tempting The Best Man, when "settling down" isn't the word for EITHER OF THEM. And yeah, I really like this setting.

Now, even the playboy has settled down. So when will the bodyguard settle down, huh? I can't wait to see Tempting the Bodyguard.
