Synopsis:
Full of romance and nature magic, this debut fantasy is perfect for fans of Shannon Hale, Juliet Marillier, and Kristin Cashore.
Lark has foreseen two things—she will fall for a young man with sage green eyes, and he will kill her.
Sixteen-year-old Lark Carew is happiest close to home, tending her garden and gathering herbs for medicines. But when her Sight warns her that monsters called Troths will soon invade her village, Lark is summoned on a journey to seek help from the legendary Riders of Tarnec. Little does she suspect that one of the Riders, Gharain, is the very man who has haunted her visions. Or that the people of Tarnec have called her there for another reason: Lark is the Guardian of Life, the first of four Guardians who must awaken their powers to recover four stolen amulets. Together, the amulets—Life, Death, Dark, and Light—keep the world in Balance. To take back the Life amulet, Lark will have to discover her true inner strength and give in to a love that she swears will be her downfall.

I love this book! It's a masterpiece of magic and finery. The world cannot be more perfect than that. Chaos and Balance fighting for eternity. Isn't it the way life works? It might not be the most original thing I've ever read, but it's still not typical at all. It's so easy to be sucked into this fascinating and natural world.
Lark is truly awesome as a human being. She's surprisingly well-rounded for a girl coming from a village, not knowing her strength. Of course, the power of being a Guardian of Life is a perk, but the rest she earned. It's not her natural gift that helps her overcoming obstacles. It's her inner strength. Of course, she's timid at first. But her character development is well done. The transformation is another reason why I really like her by the end of the book.
However, one thing that keeps me from giving this book a full 5 out of 5 stars is Gharain. I like him, don't get me wrong. He's passionate and protective. But sometimes his attitude pricked me and I kinda want to punch him at some point. He's like a wild fire though, unpredictable but very beautiful. He's rare in a modern world and I like this untamed character.
Oh, and another thing I don't like is that I NEED TO WAIT FOR ONE MORE YEAR FOR EVIE'S STORY!!!!! How am I supposed to wait? I really like Lark Rising and I can't wait for Silver Eve. I need that right now *grabby hands*
This book should be placed in a pedestal just for its beauty.
