Flashback Friday: Marked by P. C.Cast and Kristin Cast

Another Flashback Friday again!

This time is Marked, the first book of the New York Times bestselling House of Night series.

Summary:

The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres have always existed.  In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire -- that is, if she makes it through the Change.  Not all of those who are chosen do.  It's tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling.  She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx.  But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers.  When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

This won't be long because I can hardly remember what's in it.

There's a whole lot of reason why I choose Marked as today's featurette.  This book means a lot to me. Not just because it's good. But also because this is the very first YA book I read, and it marks the start of my YA fascination. Of course, looking back, this is definitely not my favorite book. Not anymore. But still it holds a very important value in my heart.

This is the start of House of Night series, and you know what? I thought this was very different from other vampire series like Twilight. An academy... sounds interesting, at least it was at that time because I know nothing about Vampire Academy or other stuff. Zoey wasn't like other main female character either. At least she won't go all girly girl at that moment. Which is relieving, considering I've already hated Twilight.

There are really sweet characters. I think they are still sweet even now. Like Damien. He's a book worm (like us!). He's sweet and loyal, blah and blah some more. I still think he's sweet. But not so much now when it comes to Zoey. Not after I start my hunting for all kinds of YA novels.

There was time when I thought that House of Night is the best vampire series ever. Well, not so much now, but it still has a important place in my bookshelf. I won't even know what a YA novel is if I hadn't picked up that book. This is the start of my life. My book life. So even though my new favorite vampire series is The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa, I still like reading HON.

I won't give you any rating on this book cuz this flashback is about the start of all things.
